In Defense Of Tradition

My friend James BraveWolf has a  blog that can be found here.  I highly recommend you read his beautifully written, ”Statement Of Faith” on the front page, which is a fine reflection of divinely decreed structure and the necessity of multiplicity in culture. James recently sent me an email detailing a comment he received from a reader.  He was smart enough to not bother posting it because it was frankly nonsense.  However, upon reading it I found that adding commentary was irresistible.  It represents, ultimately, a summation of the bitter spirit of this age, which is disguised as light, but is oppressive and evil.  It’s an evil that will not allow differences to exist because while divinely decreed, represent a hierarchial structure that the modern “spiritualist” simply refuses to accept.  A commentor by the name of William Young writes:

“James, God does not hate. Period. God especially does not hate Oneness…. God is Oneness. The demons that you speak of are all of your own creation. I am deeply saddened by your vitrolic skreed against men far more insightful, far greater than yourself. You must have been deeply wounded to hold such poison within you. I can tell from your writing that you a are a basicly decent person but you are deeply deluded and are putting your energy into efforts to divide people rather than to bring them together. The last thing this world needs is to slip back into nationalism, the glorification of european “culture” and “tradition” that have led to the mess the world is in today.

“Defending and honoring the Germanic spirit” sounds dangerously like the ideas that plunged the world into the evil even greater than Lenin’s that overtook Germany all too recently. You talk a great deal of love but what comes through in your comments is exactly the opposite.”

This critique of James’ writing falls flat entirely.  Rather than explaining where James has gone wrong, the commentor merely condemns him for not loving the things that the commentor loves or agreeing with what the commentor accepts as truth.   Even worse, the commentor accuses James of being hateful when it is clear that the commentor is the one actually harboring a hatred for anything that doesn’t toe the line of the oneness and anti-traditionalist ethos he so solemnly sacrifices his life to.  The only mention of hate made on James’ blog is where he details God’s hatred of evil, mostly in regard to the abuse of children and pedophilia.  Apparently, according the commentor, God is “one” with that as well.

But I am not just going to end my critique of this man’s critique there.  I am going to reveal how every point this fool writes is abhorrent and ignorant.  I am going to show how this man, who boldly claims an understanding of God, shouldn’t be as proud as he pretends to be.  His “knowledge” ultimately represents the most base and anti-traditional current the world has yet seen.  What it really represents is the dissolution of diverse cultures, nations, and ethnicities so that a “oneness” will emerge.  What the commentor doesn’t understand is that in order for this “coming together” to take place (what he is really wanting destroyed is the West and Europe) every culture must surrender their own traditions or nullify them so that they are a mere shadow of what they once were. At the very least he argues for the dissolution of old Christian Europe without actually coming out and saying it.

First let me begin with the facts.  God is utterly sacred and beyond the conceptions of man’s intellect.  We cannot know God in totality nor can we ever bridge the gap that stands between the individual man and God.  In a word God’s sacredness cannot be penetrated by mortals.  God is not “Oneness”.  If he was, nothing could ever come into existence without being nothingness at the most fundamental level. Ultimately, if this were true, meaning would only exist as an illusion because everything would be the same in essence.  If there is only oneness, there leaves no possiblity of “other” and all love and meaning dies in an impersonal oneness.  For all eternity God is sacred and this sacredness is communicated through his Son, who is the visible likeness of God through whom all things have come forth from non-being into being, or from the depths of God into light.   This relationship between Father and Son does not merely exist in the temporal-spatial world, it exists in eternity.  There never was a time when it was not.

The facts of the natural world are as follows:  there is no such thing as equality or oneness.  Nature abhorrs a vacuum and that is exactly what oneness is.  Without any sense of “otherness” to distinguish it, oneness simply remains an impersonal blob of pure nothingness that couldn’t even be aware of itself.  All things exist by a divine decree and this divine decree comes from God alone.  Man cannot change his fate or overpower his own destiny.  In a word, life in this world is to prepare us for eternity.  By necessity it is full of trials and tribulation that forge us in preparation for our own personal apocalypse.

Equality is a philosophical creation of the Renaissance enlightenment, and is one of the first infections of the insidious oneness philosophy the West had to endure.  Had it not been for the Church, particularly in the East, this philosophy would have certainly brought an end to humanity long ago.  Some human beings are bestowed strong intellect.  Some are bestowed with feeble minds.  Some are given healthy bodies.  Others suffer physical afflictions all the days of their lives.  Some are born into rich families and others into poor families.  From the moment we are brought into this world nothing about us is equal, nothing about us is “oneness”.  That doesn’t mean we must hate, it simply means that we are fundamentally different and these differences are decreed by God and should always be respected as such.  The modern cannot leave this decree alone, he must rebel against it because at the most fundamental level he or she is at war with God. 

Now as St. Paul has said:

“Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?”

The problem is that people today have become so distanced from God that they can no longer see clearly.  Any hint of the divine and of Godly wisdom comes off as evil to them. They cannot fathom inequality or differentiation.  They cannot understand how to live peacably with others and therefore have this incessant need to destroy cultures, nations, and people in order to see their dream of “oneness” come true. But even that is not the real problem.  The real problem is that people like the fellow that wrote the comment on James’ blog cannot understand that hierarchy is the reality not only of this world, but also the divine world.  They cannot understand that  God has indeed created people of greater intellect and ability than others.  They mistake their emotions and sentimentality as divinity and in the process destroy themselves.

Now one of the most annoying things this commentor states is as follows:

“The last thing this world needs is to slip back into nationalism, the glorification of european “culture” and “tradition” that have led to the mess the world is in today.”

This is a common statement made among many Internet fringe celebrities today promoting their anti-traditional wares.  They say things like “The church, Christianity, religion and Europe are responsible for the biggest massacres in history.  They just want control over people.  We have to break out of the reptilian matrix.”  The facts, however, paint a much different picture.  We find that within the last 150 years alone, the greatest massacres in human history have unfolded through the birth of Communism.  The commentor only shows his ignorance by saying that the Holocaust was a greater evil than that unleashed upon Russia after the 1917 revolution.  That massacre makes every other genocide in human history pale by comparison.  And to be clear, the horror that was unleashed upon the Russians was not due to religion,  European or German culture, it was due to Marxism and Communism, which sought to utterly destroy religion and tradition altogether.  This same horror was unleashed on the Chinese to the tune of tens of millions.  It is now consuming the entire world no matter what country  you live in.  So it is not tradition that has caused the predicament modern humanity is in (tradition hasn’t been a factor in this world for over 150 years), it is man’s blatant and arrogant refusal of God.  Worse, it is man’s persistent forcing of God to conform to man’s pitiful whims and emotions.  This will lead to the destruction of the present order of things.  Have no illusions, this world is presently on fire, it is not evolving or moving to a “higher state of being”.  This is something we in the West can only believe while we have food, comfort, and a steady income.  Take those away and the illusion will disappear immediately.  Those days are fast approaching.

A word is now in order about the West.  I will state proudly that I believe that Western Civilization is the most complex and beautiful culture to have ever emerged in recorded history.  I believe that it created the most beautiful music, art, and literature the world has ever known.  Like James, I hold the landscape and Soul of the West and Europe as something sacred, something that communicates the beauty of the Godhead.  I believe the West was the root of all innovation that lead to a kinder and easier life for all cultures throughout the world, particularly in the last thousand years.  I also believe that it has never been recognized as such and is in fact held in contempt by people that are frankly ignorant of history and the role the Church has played in all of this. Essentially modern humanity is full of ingrates that no longer understand history.  They simply accept what they are told by those that think for them.  Sadly, most of these people promoting anti-traditional ideas have their own agenda, and that is the total destruction of Christendom, which is the only tradition that is keeping the Wisdom of God alive.  In my own case, it is the only tradition there is.

Finally I would like to touch on one other thing the commentor writes:

“The demons that you speak of are all of your own creation”

This part I found somewhat astounding.  Unlike a lot of people today I wholeheartedly believe in the reality of demons and demonic influences.  I think that these same demons influence those that are not under grace, but have rejected God and tradition altogether.  I believe that this automatically makes a person an open vessel for demonic influence.  The governing and economic ruling bodies of nearly every country on earth have been influenced by this presence and I strongly suspect that the final goal is to destroy mankind, which has always communicated God’s image into the temporal-spatial domain.  I do not believe as so many others do that our present economic crisis is planned by evil rich men who meet once a month.  What is happening is far too complex for there to be human beings responsible for it.  We are being lead into the perfect storm that is going to lead to a blood-bath of monumental proportions.  Only when this is accomplished will people finally understand that evil is indeed real.  For the last couple generations, we have been largely shielded from the harsh realities of this world by technological conveniences that have kept us pacified.
