Witness Statement: Went out to run the dog. Looking NNE saw a fast moving orange/gold light. Not an aircraft and not the ISS. It transversed from NNE to due N then to NNW over eastern Hoy in the Orkneys. It appeared to stop and then returned along the same path for about 20% of the distant I had seen it travel. It then appeared to become stationary and over a period of 3 to 4 minutes started to fade. However it was still visible. it was bitterly cold and I was forced to come back in doors. I returned outside but failed to locate the light again.
I am very familiar with aircraft and the night sky over Caithness, I have never seen any phenomena such as this.
I have been a sceptic with respect to UFO sightings up until now. I am positive it could not have ben an aircraft, it’s speed and the absence of flashing lights and it’s rapid re-positioning indicate it to have been something unusual.
