The Ch-ch-ch Change
I think I’m feeling funky because of… *looks around carefully before answering in a whisper* … “the CHANGE.” I’m having terrible hot flashes and my sleep cycle is off and my libido is taking a nose dive again. FUN!
Which means I’d better start taking the SAM-e and St. John’s Wort again because apparently while I’m going through my estrogen withdrawals my brain’s mood regulation, previously sensitized to depression, starts to slide downwards.
And when I have a hard time writing, that’s one of the signs I’m heading in that direction. I start to self-isolate and just want to live in fantasy ALL the time. Which is not healthy, obviously.
You know, if I’d just gone through the whole process ONCE and been done with it by now, no big. But NO. My hormones sink and then my period goes away for a few months– but THEN, it comes BACK. But THEN– it goes away AGAIN. And back are the hot flashes and sleep disturbance and yadda-yadda. I wish it would finish and then just be done with it already, jeesh!
How come this sort of thing isn’t more widely known about and discussed? Why is losing your fertility hushed up like its a shameful thing? Its something every woman goes through if she’s lucky enough to live so long! (Ug. Culture stOOpid.)
