Recovery Period & Rowan's Hints

I was pretty worn out after the Housewarming Party. Not so much from the party itself, which was mellow and more about food and friends than PAR-TAYing, but from the mad scramble to get ready for it the few days before and the day of. That it was uncomfortably hot (until I got a clue about our air conditioning– derp!) made it all the more of a challenge. I had a pain flare that was pretty severe, so I took it easy a few days and treated it and now I’m functional again.

But we made it and I could afford to just rest and relax afterwards. We’re moved in and the majority of the work is done. We just have to fix the electric that is messed up in one part of the kitchen/hallway and replace all those appliances that got burnt out by that. The new microwave is in, we just have to get a new stove and dishwasher. Le sigh! But other than that, some more insulation in the attics, and a couple of fixes of that big fireplace in the living room (damper and screen on the roof piece) we’re SET. The yard and fountain looks great. We only have another wall of the living room and the rec room/lounge to paint and then even all of that is done. Outside, the only big thing left is tree planting. First the evergreen privacy screen trees, then we’ll do fruit trees. That is the sum total of what is left on our list from now through mid autumn. So– yeah… its getting there!

Our friend Ben from Ohio (was our roommate for several years when he lived in Oregon) is coming for a week’s visit tomorrow, and then we’ll be hanging out and busy for several days. Once his visit is over, we’ll have a space of time. I intend to get back to my abduction memoirs soon after that. After 10 months of being so busy I can barely keep up, a little more paced lifestyle is at last within reach. (I feel like I keep saying that, and yet I always have more stuff to do…)

In stranger news, Rowan has been contacting me on Facebook to chat and tell me that she wants to talk sometime soon. I’m all, “Wha..?” because we’re barely speaking. Then she informs me that she’s moving BACK to the PNW, and sooner than she thought, and— Oh. That’s why. You know I have a new house and am doing well. She wants to ask if she can stay with me.

NO FUCKING WAY!

Even if I said yes, which I wouldn’t, my husband would throw a fit at the very notion.

We have this history. She was in my Circle, but when I left it she caused problems– and later, when I returned from Ohio and needed to take shelter with her, she made me pay for it by playing Queen of the Manor and getting high-handed and massively bitchy with me. The only reason I am even in contact with her now is because she apologized abjectly years later and wanted to be friends on Facebook. I let her be, but I ignore her for the most part. I did tell her she was bloody awful to us when we lived with her and there was resentment there.

To sum up, I wrote at one point:

“Right now, I have a former friend (who does not yet know she is “former” but will in a few weeks to months) who has so bitterly disappointed me that I can scarcely breathe sometimes from the sense of betrayal I get from her multiple methods of humiliating me.

Ever since I found myself in a quandary and in dire need of her assistance, this woman has taken to treating me like a child, though I’m much more mature and “straight” than she could ever aspire to be. She’s been throwing little hissy fits and humphing and making sundry other little sounds of protest at any slight inconvenience to Her Highness. I’ll be happy to get my own place and not deal with her again as soon as I can.“

Now… why would I invite THAT person to come live with me?
