Spring Has Sprung, Fiona's Love Affair With the Roof
FINALLY!!!
The never-ending season of GLOOM has lifted at last! We’ve had temps in the upper 60s and 70s and– dare I believe it?– its going to reach 84 degrees tomorrow.
Of course, I’m not used to warmer temps and it feels a little too warm, but I’m not going to worry too much about that just now. I am simply pleased to see that glowing yellow orb in the sky at long last, and for more than a handful of minutes at a time!
It really has been a bleak spring.
We have a ton of yard work piled up to attend to– I have to finish trimming out the front yard, which is overgrown from a couple of years of neglect. Cat’s mowing the yard, and her mom’s blowing off the driveway. I’ve been using their electric weed trimmer for 10 minute intervals to attack the tangle of weeds at ground level. I can’t last much longer than that– either my grip or my arms give out! After very little outdoor work for the last year and a half, I’m very sadly out of shape. I’ll have to keep doing the weed-eating over the course of days to get it all done. We’ll see how long I last! =^/
We took the now almost grown kittens out, and my Fiona has discovered how to climb a tree and jump to the roof of the house. However, she has not figured out how to get down (the limb from the tree she uses to jump down to the roof is too far to jump back to) and she just wanders the roof, meowing and eventually panting in distress. She’s been rescued a couple of times already from the roof, so NOW she avoids us and just keeps trying to figure out her own way down. We tried to provide a couple of escape routes but they are too scary it seems. I’m very tired of rescuing her and the last time Cat wanted to let the kittens outside to play, I declined to join her because I knew what would happen– and it did. And Cat spent 2 HOURS trying to persuade Fiona to jump down to a lower roof so she could go in a window. I felt like a real shit and went and helped… a little. (Hey, I tried to avoid the situation by just not letting Fiona out!)
Overall, though, I’m just feeling better with a few days of sunshine both behind me and ahead of me. I’m still not completely out of my funk yet, but I’m having fewer flares in the last week, which gives me hope that maybe I’m improving. It is very hard not to overdo it, though! I’m so restless and ready to move around and get some things done!
