ETs in Indiana (and I missed them?)

The January 1976 issue of the magazine pictured here had a piece by Don Worley: UFOs, Occupants and Artifacts in Eastern, Indiana 1972-1973 [page 16 ff.].
I had just moved to Indiana from Florida [1971] where we had a UFO operation but do not recall the Indiana stories or sightings related by Mr. Worley.
A farm family – and Indiana farmers are an honest lot – the Nelson’s saw a “great orange glowing boomerang” on March 10, 1972 just south of Greensburg, Indiana.
Donna Nelson and her husband watched this object for about an hour, just as a glow at first in a farm field.
Mr. Nelson, her husband, went to bed, not feeling well, but Donna continued to watch when, suddenly, a boomerang-like object rose up and flew west.
The next day, Donna’s father-in-law, accompanied by grandson, Brian,  while checking a field where they let hogs feed, found a “very bright, but not glowing, red orange rock like thing … it looked like red paint had been poured on it, then yellow … both mixed together.”
“The roughly round object, approximately 5 inches by 20 inches, had a generally flat top and bottom with many small crater like holes in it. A few chipped pieces on it were rough and revealed an interior the same mottled red-orange color as the outside.”
The ground didn’t seem disturbed by the object nor was there any odor. The artifact seemed heavier than it should be.
They rolled it off the field, thinking they’d pick it up with the tractor the next day, but when they went to get it the following day, it was gone.
Grandson Brian and spot where artifact disappeared:
Mr. Worley says he contacted some fox hunters who were in the area but they were derisive: [Who] would steal a rock off anyone’s farm?”
In October 1973, several “aerial constructions” were seen by locals, in Fort Wayne, Laurel, Indiana, and Middleton, Ohio, right across the border: 1.) an object like a banner with small lights flapping in the breeze that appeared to be ocean liner like with a rounded back and flat bottom, with five rows of “small throbbing yellow lights like portholes” 2.) a great orange cigar-shaped object with five smaller disc-shaped objects overhead, followed by 20 to 40 foot size discs. 3.) a strange craft with a “fluorescent bottom … divided into three equal parts by pale grey lines. Within the three sections was one circle made by the same pale grey lines.”
Other sightings in the time-frame consisted of a buzzing UFO, a glowing curved top, flat bottomed object with flashing red light on top (from which long, gold ropes appeared to dangle), an object like “two saucers together, emitting a sound like a bee swarm … with circles in the three spaces in the bottom of the objects; [the] object rapidly jiggled up and down and sideways” before taking off at “a fantastic speed.”
Many of the objects seemed to have lines, trisecting the bottoms of the objects.
On October 22, 1975, in Blackford County, Indiana, two witnesses encountered “two small silver-suited humanoids that skipped and floated across the road, in a slow motion manner.”
The “creatures” appeared, at first, to be two small children moving along while flapping their arms.
The beings were about four feet in height, wearing tight fitting suits. They were of “slight build and had what appeared to be some kind of covering on their head.”
They seemed to be wearing, not shoes, but boxes on their feet “slightly larger than a shoe.”
In a panic, one of the witnesses, a woman, trying to get away from the beings, almost hit them with her car.
“The little occupants [sic] had seemed unconcerned about the auto and happy to bounce in the road” but as the car approached they seemed “confused, then sought to make a hasty exit from its path.”
Another witness purported to have seen them and a deputy sheriff with two  buddies, one a state policeman, went to check on the alleged sighting after getting a call from the initial witnesses.
One of the men spotted the beings, seeing their tight suits, like galvanized sheet metal and a mirror.
They were about four feet tall with egg-shaped coverings on their heads which tapered into a “garden sized hose that went into their lower chest.”
They had normal figures but no hands, with square things on their feet with heels that extended an inch beyond a normal heel.
The witnessed shone a spotlight on the creatures which bounced up into the air and after a fourth bounce they kept going skyward like helicopters with their feet in a down position.
They disappeared leaving some red tracer streaks.
Another encounter not unlike that of the 1954 Dewilde episode in Quaroble Nord, France reported a big waddling humanoid on a railroad track, which turned out to be an auto head light at a distant crossing, the “humanoid an earthling approaching up the track magnified by a light behind him … an optical illusion.”
What are we to make of such bizarre sightings from people who are, generally, seen to be full of common sense and honest to a fault?
And what would extraterrestrial visitors, or inter-dimensional beings be doing roaming Indiana/Ohio farm fields?
It’s all very odd, and I missed all of it, settling in to new digs on a hill far from farm fields, and surrounded by town dwellers, not farm folk, removed from strange visitors or hallucinogenic spates caused by tainted well water perhaps.
