The Betty/Barney Hill “abduction” is a good story but it evolved over time so I’m not impressed. The same for Roswell.
But a few UFO “tales” are meaty because we have them when they took place, in situ, and without adornment. Here are a few:
Dominick’s favorite 1952 Sonny Desvergers’ story in which a scoutmaster entered a wooded area and had a UFO episode, allegedly.
Dominick likes the one fact from the episode, and it’s the burnt grasses (and roots) found by investigators at the spot where scoutmaster Desvergers said he was burnt by a flying saucer.

Another good story that continues to titillate even today is the 1975 Travis Walton UFO abduction.
Travis entered a wooded area – wooded areas are grist for good stories where something untoward often happens – and was not seen or found for several days.
When he was discovered, he said that he was taken, as you know, aboard a UFO and scrutinized by extraterrestrials (or strange, little creatures).
I find Travis’s tale as sturdy and good. True? Who really knows but it’s a good story and has held up well over the years.
The Stefan Michalak 1967 story is also a good one, although our pal Zoam Chomsky [The Iron Skeptic] has dismissed it out of hand:
The “encounter” has always struck me as legitimate, despite Zoam’s incisive rebuttal of the tale.
It’s a good “story” nonetheless.
The 1979 Robert Taylor ‘assault” by a strange contraption is also a good story, a very good story:
While I can accept the “medical” explanation [
temporal lobe epilepsy] for Mr. Taylor’s experience, his story remains intriguing and good, as a story.
These are just a few UFO-related stories that are unmarred by later ufological accretions and biases.
While they may not represent authentic UFO encounters, they may still be seen as real, fictive and/or non-fictive stories, worthy of literary or reportage legitimacy.
