What’s new is old again?

Yah, I know the nadage [new adage] is “what’s old is new again” but in ufology the reverse is in play.

With the intriguing reports and videos of U.S. Navy pilots encountering UFOs, I’m finding UFO enthusiasts (ufologists) harking back to ufological memes: MIBs, exotic metals (intimating crashed flying saucers), government cover-up, Bob Lazar, and secret venues where UFOs and aliens (extraterrestrials) are being housed or studied (Area 51 and SkinWalker Ranch).

Rather than attacking with research and hypothetical rumination, distressed UFOers are falling back on a former UFO zeitgeist.

Discussions via comments and postings at this blog are steeped in old UFO cases, one being the 1952 Sonny Desvergers incident in Florida, hyped by the History Channel:

Ufologists don’t seem able to spark new approaches to UFO investigation, relying, instead, on the memorable past to enthuse their adolescent flying saucer excitement.

I keep getting, from unverifiable senders, the suggestion that there are other UFO videos extant but not publicized, that show military encounters with UFOs, videos and reports other than the Nimitz 2004 and the 2015/2016 accounts recently hyped all over the place.

But no one has pursued such rumors, even though I seem to recall a Google UFO feed mentioning the possibility.

At any rate, UFO ennui has set in and ufologists are snoozing again, discussing everything but the phenomenon, which continues to elude explanation.

[UFO] “disclosure” – like the Second Coming of Christ – is not going to happen. There is nothing to disclose but the madness that engulfs the UFO community, a madness that is now being quelled by kind of nostalgic UFO Alzheimer disease.
