And... Mumsie's Back In the Hospital

So much for this weekend as far as my sister going home is concerned!

Aunt Dora called me yesterday to let me know that my mother fell down for the 4th time since she left rehab too early. Only the 4th time she was outside her front door and fell onto the cement stoop and path that’s there and hit her head and twisted a knee. Thus landing herself right back in the hospital she was so keen to not return to!

Le sigh…

The soonest Erica will go home would be the 21st. However, once again there’s the chance she won’t go home ever…

Dora told me she was trying to convince her sister to agree that she needed assisted living. I said it would be a miracle if Mumsie agreed to that, since she was the “most stubborn person I have ever met in my life!“

And Dora replied, “You got that right!” in a moment of mutual understanding that gave me hope my entire family is not completely insane!

So now my aunt is going back and forth between two hospitals, one with her husband and one with her sister, and she told me she’s exhausted. Of course she would be!

Dora actually called ME this time, and she promised to keep me in on the loop– that’s progress for sure between us. I’m continuing to be cooperative and sympathetic and that’s evidently working. I know my mother’s lies made her distrust me, and so I’m hoping that I can clearly demonstrate that I’m not the problem here. I never have been. I was my parents’ scapegoat– the handy thing you blame when you want to duck blame yourself AND justify being an asshole. My father was an asshole, and my mother still is one! But maybe, just maybe, my sister doesn’t have to pay for my mother’s painting me as some wayward villain!

Meanwhile, I had a conversation with my sister that my showing her things was to teach her, not hurt her feelings on purpose. Erica can’t stand to be corrected, but I pointed out she needs to know these things if she’s going to be allowed to live in her own house! And the thing is– she IS learning quite well. She’s got our routine down and she’s retaining what I show her after 2 to 3 demonstrations on average. She’s slow, she not unable to learn. It just takes longer, but Lady knows I’ve learned patience in my life and that comes in handy for this type of thing!
