The Urban Garden

In today’s economic situation, with all the current job loss and economic failures in Europe, more and more people are looking for ways to become self-sufficient. This can be a daunting task if you live in the city.

As you know, we preach self-sufficiency over mass storage and we are always looking for new and innovative products to help our customers. I have talked about vertical gardening before but recently at the Self Reliance Expo I ran across a neat new invention that city dwellers may find very helpful, so I thought I would share it with you.

It’s called The Tower Garden. It stands about 5 feet tall and only requires an area of 2 ½ ft by 2 ½ ft. It can grow 20 plants, or 28 plants with the 1 ft extension.

TheTowerGardenis the world’s first, one-of-a-kind vertical ‘aeroponic’ growing system.

It is a fully self-contained growing system that uses no dirt. You fill the holding tank with water and the pump circulates water up and over the plants’ roots. According to a NASA study, using aeroponics growing takes about half the time of traditional growing methods.

It typically takes less than 10% of the water needed to grow the same produce in soil.

With people in the cities looking for ways to be self-sufficient we thought this would be a great answer. With the little amount of space it takes, it could easily fit on most decks or used indoors with grow lights.

The Tower Garden comes with everything you need to get started: the pump, timer, seed starter kit, Tower Tonic (nutrients) and 5 seed packets: basil, cucumber, gourmet lettuce, cherry and beefsteak tomatoes.

The company has an interest-free payment plan for those of you on a tight budget and who isn’t.

After seeing this system in action at the show, we really felt this was a no brainer solution for the urban gardener. This is a great idea for those of you trying to be more self-sufficient in the city or anywhere you have little room to grow a garden.

Even though we live in a rural area, we do not have much room to grow a garden here. We are considering buying one of these so please watch for updates.
