Bug out location

We posted on our Facebook page:

How far is too far for a bug out location? What do you think is an appropriate distance?
Some comments we received:

Comment #1:  Here are my thoughts. There are two scenarios….one is a natural disaster in which case, a bug out location would likely be a non-issue. Then there is a government initiated attack on US citizens or, an invasion by another country. In that case, I would disagree with Greg….you are going to need to bug out. This is where I take a different tact. I would not tie myself to a single identifiable target location. A better approach is to pre-plan re-supply points. Those would be sites where you have buried items you will need as time passes. I would be planning a move to area’s with more difficult terrain. Area’s that you can make an attempt to minimize your heat signature….There is no too far…..so long as you are moving…..remaining stagnant, makes you a better target.

Comment #2:  This is something that would depend on what kind of S has HTF. You may have to go 2000 miles to be safe. You never know. My fall back is 45 miles away. But it may be unsafe to go there. So, in other words, you know what can happen when all the eggs are in one basket…

Comment #3:  Needs to be close but secluded, and have the ability to become self sustaining. IE- a well and clear land, also shouldn’t be too far from hunting areas. So you can provide for you and yours.

Comment #4:  That really depends on where you are initially located and what the scenario is…. on top of that if roads are a no-go I have a mountain bike as a backup. Working on getting it outfitted with a rack and supplies for it (It will have it’s own BOB) plus toting my other BOB. In a get out of dodge scenario I will have it in the back of my truck with hopefully enough gas tanks if road conditions are favorable.
