Apartment Prepper Got Hacked!

If you tried to access Apartment Prepper yesterday, you would have found it very strange to be redirected to a site with Russian writing on it.

I discovered to my dismay, what happened when I checked it at my lunch break and found I could not get in at all.  The site was the target of a malicious attack.  I immediately opened a tech support ticket with my site’s host provider; I spent the rest of the afternoon fretting and corresponding with them.  Fortunately the 24 hour tech team did not let me down.  For a reasonable fee, they were able to restore it with a backup.

Unfortunately, because it was restored from a backup from a few days ago, I had repost this week’s articles, and we lost many of the valued comments on this week’s articles, including the entries to the giveaway of The Unofficial Hunger Games Wilderness Survival Guide.

Lessons learned… Today, I am taking steps recommended to harden the blog as well as creating additional backups just in case.
