I was really hoping to get some great stuff posted this weekend, but I’ve been trapped in the Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent due to copious amounts of rain. Blah!

Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent

As I said I ventured to the forest, to camp out and shoot some videos and work on some camping and preparedness concepts, but have spent the entire evening and all of today in the tent.

I know have a deep appreciation for the Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent. I typically camp in a smaller camouflage pup tent or use a military poncho shelter, but I knew there would be some rain this weekend, and I had the Hooligan ready to go.

I’ve been meaning to put the Hooligan 2 Tent through a short weekend trip since I first got it, and this is it’s maiden voyage. I set it up once, at home, to make sure I knew how it worked, but that was the only pre-flight testing I did to it.

Setup is really simple. It took me about 20 minutes on the first try to set it up, and this weekend I had it up in less than 10.

There is plenty of space in this “2 man” tent. While home I had my wife, my 3 daughters and myself in the tent and we could all stretch out in comfortable sleeping positions. I can comfortably sit up, which was a huge bonus this weekend, with all the rain.

I didn’t waterproof the tent, as I wanted to see how the Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent would handle right out of the box and it’s done surprisingly well.

In this short video, you can see me, still in my sleeping clothes, looking really bored.

Shortly after this video, a really strong downpour came through. I did notice a few minor spots that I will waterproof prior to my longer upcoming outings. In the tents, defense, the rain and wind were bad enough that I fired up my weather radio to see if there was a tornado warning.

I’ve been sitting here taking notes and sketching concepts just waiting for the rain to stop. At one point I even fired up Netflix on my mobile phone to kill some time. Oh well, maybe next trip, we’ll get some good videos.

To sum things up, I really like this Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent, I wish it wasn’t bright orange, but I do own a camouflage tarp, that I can drape over it for a more serious bug out tent. Glad I bought this tent and will be using it for all my non-roughing it camping trips. Trust me I’ll still bust out the military poncho shelters as needed. You can’t beat a raincoat that turns into shelter
