Home Defense Is Not Just About Having a Firearm in the Safe

With all the talk in the news and on the Internet about gun rights, mainly the possession of certain firearms, people are naturally concerned. Fearing a shortage of weapons and/or laws banning certain weapons, people may have hurried out to purchase a firearm to ensure they have one. Some may even be under the impression that once they have a firearm in the home, they are safer, simply by the fact there is one in the home. Using this logic then anyone with a scalpel and operating table can perform brain surgery. This if course is a dramatic analogy but you get the idea, owning something does not necessarily mean you know how to use it and not knowing how to use a weapon can be as dangerous as not having one at all.

Security Posture

Several stages make up your home security profile/posture. Awareness of the fact that anything can happen is in and of itself a protective posture, it makes you more alert. Once you know the possible threats then you can implement deterrents, to help prevent a situation for happening in the fist place. Lastly, what are the appropriate self-defense measures that can be taken in the event you are confronted in your home despite any preventive measures you may have taken?

Just because there has never been an incident in your neighborhood does not mean there will never be one. You have to assume anything can happen. Common sense tells it is just a matter of time.
