5 Knots You Should Know

Comment #1: Two halve hitch will hold the bull, three half hitch will hold the devil in him.

Comment #2: Any figure eight is good to know as it holds 80% of the ropes strength! I would leave the “Two Half Hitch” out as it’s a loose knot – load shock will undo it. I would go for a Tensionless Hitch with a Figure Eight on a bight. This way the rope will have 100% of efficiency instead of the 60-75% from the Two Half Hitch; 550 Paracord just went from 550 to 330! I would replace the Overhand Knot with a Trucker Hitch which gives you a 2-1 system; can be mod to a 3-1 too. I used the Bowline many of times, but I stick with a figure eight because of the rope efficiency. Why is the Munter left out? That thing is super awesome and can be used for many things! Also what about the Prusik/French Prusik/Klemheist/Bachmann Knots???

Comment #3: Timber hitch, figure 8, bow line, butterfly and truckers knot. Good start

Comment #4: Figure eight variations and bowline are good but two knots everyone should know is the square knot and the clove hitch.

Comment #5: The simple square knot is a must. Strong yet can be undone easily/quickly. Added loops can be applied if needed.

Comment #6: where is the clove hitch or sheet bend or becket bend. I feel the clove hitch is very important to anchor a rope or to do a quick tie off but also if you need to extend a line you need to know the bend family.
