Light My Fire – SL3 Knife with Integrated Swedish Firesteel Review

A knife and a fire starter are two of the most important items survivalists have in their everyday carry. Both of these items can ensure one’s survival in an emergency situation so they both need to be of really good quality to ensure they work for you when an emergency situation arises. You don’t want a fire starter to fail when your survival depends on being warm nor do you want a knife with a handle that breaks right at the moment when you don’t want it to.

In this survival gear review, we’re going to check out the SL3 Knife with Integrated Swedish Firesteel by Light My Fire. It’s a knife with a foldable blade with a piggyback firesteel so the design incorporates two important survival items in one package: knife and fire starter. SL3 Knife Product Features

The SL3 Knife weighs a very light 2.7 oz. and incorporates the all-weather Swedish Firesteel from Light My Fire. The knife which measures 3.1 inches and is 50/50 serrated is developed by Tool Logic and the blade is made of Japanese 420 J2 Stainless steel. The blade is razor-sharp with a spear point shape and a curve which is fitting for most field chores. The blade can be opened and closed with one hand.

However, the knife that I received was very sharp and has held the edge reasonably (although I didn’t buy this for everyday use and don’t use it as such, I carry a folding razor knife for that). The knife is solid despite its light weight. I know this because I have dropped it several times and it has come through without a scuff. My copy of the knife arrived nearly shaving sharp right out of the box. I’ve used it to cut some cardboard and it seems to have held the edge okay. It was also easy enough to touch the edge up with a smiths pocket sharpener. I tested the firesteel out on a cotton ball and I got it to light with only a couple of attempts. (Not bad considering this was the first firesteel I’ve owned.) My version of the knife has some notches near the thumb hole that work great as a striker and can be used with the blade closed. – C. B. Who this Product Is For

The SL3 Knife is for you if you want an item that can function three ways: as an effective utility knife, as a fire starter as well as an emergency signal. The knife is pretty lightweight at 2.7 oz and not bulky that it can easily fit in a standard everyday carry. This product could also make a very good backup for your current knife. Like with any other product, as long as you understand the knife’s limitations and not abuse it, this item should last a while and be well worth your money.
