What Are You Prepping For?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

What are you prepping for? A) camping trips,  B) weather-related emergencies C) natural disasters D) an economic collapse E) a TEOTWAWKI scenario. GO!

A Few Comments:

  • Reptilian shapeshifting aliens!
  • Whatever life throws our way. Your personal TEOTWAWKI can be anything, and even something as simple as loss of a job or major medical expenses. Start with the simple problems first and expand from there as necessary.
  • All of em! Pray for the best, prepare for the worst!
  • To the person who said to prepare for all of the above, some people do not need to prep for tsunamis. Floridians need to prepare to evacuate for hurricanes, those of us nowhere near a coast would be silly to do the same things. You shelter for a tornado differently, if you’re the fool that evacuates for a tornado you’re going to be dead. And, that happened last summer, people tried to flee from a tornado and died. because once you’ve got one tornado in a tornadic system others start popping down, and with debris flying every which way and lightning, and flash flooding, running can = death. In the north you need to prepare for extreme weather in winter, too. Which is a different kind of preparedness than for extreme weather in the south.  In terms of weather-related emergencies and natural disasters (only), you need to have a realistic outlook on what your likelihood of encountering any of those disasters would be and prepare accordingly. Lots of people make mistakes in extreme winter weather. People die of CO poisoning and fires more often in extreme winter weather. Doesn’t that sound paradoxical. But, you better know what winter weather is, and what home safety is, and how to do it right.
  • Just natural disasters. I had a wake up call 2 years ago July 2011 when a “derecho” came through our neighborhood and took down ALL the powerlines, we had 8 days with no power, and they called in all kinds of service trucks to fix it. I remember seeing Georgia Power and Light in our neighborhood! But, we’re low priority, it could happen again, and what if it hit a larger area, we’d be out of power for even longer. I do feel like with global climate change we are going to see more extreme weather. So, that’s what I’m prepping for. I have also had winter storm power outages, too. Most of the people in my neighborhood gave up, spent money on a generator (which buying a generator and gasoline in a power outage costs you a pretty penny). We got by 8 days, no gennie. But… we were not well prepared, I ended up using more gasoline driving out of the area and eating fast food. The hubs ran out of gasoline and had to get a ride to a town that had power to run their gas stations. since then, I have invested in having power free clothing washing capabilities (clothes line camping washer, and 1 week of pure practice). Having food and water on hand in larger quantities (so I don’t need to get food out in an emergency). I keep more batteries on hand.  But, aside from a few tech upgrades (or downgrades, hah!), my goal is to be able to be more energy independent (love some of the new solar and LED technologies coming out), and have more food on hand.
  • I prep to be prepared for anything imaginable, anyone who preps for a single event is a nutcase, u never know what the method of mayhem will be… Just don’t forget to pack an extra case of common sense and good reason in that “Bugout bag”
