Home Made Vs Store Bought

Have you switched to any home made alternatives to commercial products? Why did you switch? Cheaper, Natural, better?

Top Facebook Comments:

  • I’ve been making my own creamer with sweetened condensed milk, half & half and vanilla extract. I also make our own laundry detergent, diaper wipes, glass cleaner, and bathroom scrub. Good bye unneeded and unwanted chemicals!
  • Now, I don’t use creamer of any sort. I just use whole milk in my coffee-no sugar. but, that said…
  • torani hazelnut syrup ingredients: Pure cane sugar, water, natural flavors, citric acid, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness), caramel color.
  • I rarely buy any commercial or processed foods of any kind. I shop the perimeter aisles of the market, buying whole foods and making everything from scratch. There is nothing I consider convenient about purchasing something I can make just as easily and quickly myself at 1/2 or less than their cost. I bake in bulk with whole wheat flour and use a lot of alternative healthier substitutions for the fat in recipes, cut the sugar in every recipe e use additions like flax meal and chia seeds to bump up the nutritional values. We’ve grown our own veggies for 20 years, first as a hobby, then out of necessity. If I don’t know how to make something, I Google it. If you like the taste of commercial products, google recipes from Alton Brown, he breaks them down and remakes it and his recipes are always really close to the real deal.
  • I’ve made my own coffee creamer before and liked it. I also recently made my first batch of laundry detergent and love it.
  • I might just have to try this! That is what I drink each morning. Glad I saw this. I am also in the process of sorting out how to make my dogs their own food. Wet food, I have sorted. Any suggestions on alternatives with the dry food? We are lucky enough to be able to free feed but that means more exposure time on their dry food. Any suggestions? Please feel free to message me any suggestions as well if you wish. Thanks for this post and any suggestions.
  • We make our own almond and rice milk by soaking in water, blending and straining. Add a little vanilla and raw sugar. Easy, cheap and no dairy headaches or bloat!
  • Everything, cheaper and healthier for my family.
  • I’ve been trying to find something that will give me the same creamy satisfaction but be healthier and none of the almond/rice/coconut creamers do it at all… will give this a try!
