The WIPP Plutonium storage site, in collapsing and corrosive salt caves, had a significant release, which the experts said was “far below any level of concern”. They lied through their teeth.
They tried to pretend that the human health hazard of Plutonium was only 100% from the ionizing radiation, and then used “radiation only” guidelines for whether the EPA would consider it an “action level”. In fact Plutonium’s real killing power if from it being an unnatural heavy metal, with radiation as a “bonus”.
Therefore, when the scientists state that the amount detected is far below EPA action levels, they are lying through their teeth.
Plutonium kills most effectively as a site specific heavy metal (not just related to radioactivity), and Plutonium is hardly “radioactive” so judging it just by it amount of ioninzing activity is completely deceptive. Most isotopes of Plutonium have extremely long half lives….that means that very little “goes off” at any given minute. Therefore they won’t show up very much on a Geiger Counter.

Seems like one person using multiple accounts to sell the fear-porn against WIPP.
Instead of fear porn, why not explain how the above ground radiation count is 0.062 Becquerels for Plutonium, and about double that for the Americium count? Oh, wait, that would be too scientific.
Or, maybe you could explain how there is zero recognized counts in any of the traps out beyond 10-miles from the facility.
Maybe you could explain how, when they shut WIPP down, you won’t have nuclear medicine in this country, like MRI’s CAT Scans, etc., because you will have effectively shut down the only site in the U.S. we have for medical-grade nuclear medicine waste. Nope, that doesn’t sell well in fear porn, either.
Wait – I know – you could use your typing to drive a ‘what is wrong, what is broken, what does it take to fix it, and why aren’t you fixing it now’ campaign; instead, you want to shut down national nuclear medicine, because no one near you has ever died of cancer, leukemia, etc., and it really doesn’t matter to you if they have access to such medicine or not.

There is a cure for cancer and it has nothing to do with radiation, the most dangerous medical practice on the planet.
You’re the same person who said on the 16th that there was no release from the half-mile deep repository of extremely dangerous waste from the production of NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
You said there was a fire in a mining car, not near the storage vaults, caused by employees drinking on the job.
You also said the repository was for medical waste that isn’t harmful. That’s why it’s half a mile underground, under 13 layers of concrete and soil, because there’s nothing harmful there.
And you were saying this at a time when the DOE was admitting the employees were “sequestered” because of a release.
Of course, the DOE said the material released was harmful only if inhaled. Well, duh. That’s why we don’t want it released.
Your mendacity is just one example of why we should NOT believe what the nuclear industry and government say about this incident. But, we already knew better than to believe ANYTHING they say, from past experience.
So, why don’t YOU tell ME why the employees can’t go back into the facility. What happened there? What was released, and HOW, exactly. Heck, why don’t you quote the employees themselves. Surely they are allowed to tell the truth to the public.
Shut WIPP down? The waste — from the production of NUCLEAR BOMBS — seems to have shut it down already.

I’m sorry for folks with real medical problems but I believe CATSCANS, MRI are being OVER USED in this country just so hospitals can raise costs because insurance companies have to pay for it…because states mandate they perform them…
I was recently hospitalized and requested that they not scan me but they did anyway…First time I had insurance, the next time I didn’t.. cant really stop them when you are highly drugged out of your mind.. now I have great medical bills for a procedure I didn’t even want…
