10 Tips for Better Home Security

Keep your home safe from burglars. Here are some tips to have a better home security.

1. Blend in with your neighbors. Your house would be a target for burglars if they see that you have the fanciest and most decorated lawn in your place. They might think that you have more resources and valuables that your neighbors. Take a look at the houses in your street; if your house stands out from the other houses, it is best to blend in with your neighbors.
2. If you have tall or large shrubs near your windows and doors, it is better that you cut them off. Burglars will use them to hide while attempting to break into your house. If you have home privacy fencing, you have to put lights outside or within the perimeter.
3. Put some security lighting around your home. Use motion detector lighting, it is better than using ‘always on’ lighting.
4. Before burglars will rob you, they will get some data first. They will observe your daily routines, home schedules, and what time you go out of your house and when will you come home. They will also observe your neighbors. Be aware of the people in your neighborhood, especially the strangers.
5. Burglars always think that what you have outside you also had inside. If they see expensive things outside your house, they will assume that there are also expensive things inside your house. If they see that you have a new or expensive car in your driveway, a swimming pool, or expensive outdoor furniture, they will surely target your house.
6. Burglars are always looking for easy access to break in. You should avoid doors that have glass near the doorknob. If the burglars noticed that you have doors like this, they will easily break into your house.
7. Before you leave the house, make sure that you lock all the doors and windows. Burglars will look for an easy way to get into your house. If you don’t have the habit of locking all the windows and doors in your house before you leave, it is time for you to change that habit.
8. If your air conditioner is placed at your window, make sure that you secure it. Burglars can easily push your air conditioner, if it was not secured.Screw your air conditioner into the window sash, or put wood or metal to fit it into your window.
9. Use window blinds or shades, so that burglars will not be able to look through your window and see what’s inside your house. Especially if you have valuables or expensive stuff inside your house.
10. Before leaving your house, you can turn some lights on or use lights on timer, just to make it looks like someone is home. You can also leave a radio on, or use a fake TV deterrent. This fake TV will make it looks like someone is home by creating illusions.
