What Preppers Are According To Non-Preppers

If you have ever told people you are prepper (personally I don’t think that is a very good idea – when the S hits it, you can easily become a target), you might have gotten some funny looks, or a smirk, or stupid questions. To most people, preppers are nothing but hoarders, paranoid individuals or extremists.

There are a lot of misconceptions about preppers and they range from funny to downright insulting.

The following are just some of the misconceptions circulating about us preppers:

Preppers are hoarders. Preppers store items such as food, first aid supplies, ammo, and many more. But that doesn’t make them hoarders. The items that preppers store are all valuable items that can be used and can be helpful before, during, and after a disaster or an emergency situation.

Preppers are heavily armed. Other people automatically assume this because some preppers have guns and ammo at home. Preppers have an unfair reputation of being too trigger-happy that they will blow away anyone that crosses them. The main reason why preppers keep weapons at home is that for them to protect themselves and their family. Preppers know that in a time of disaster you cannot trust anybody, even a person you know or a friend can be your enemy.

Preppers are against or hate the government. During a disaster it is natural that the people expect help from the government. But, when it comes to your own survival, the only one you should rely on is you. It is true that the government spend so much time and money preparing for any crisis. They allot budgets for disaster relief, calamities, emergency response, etc. Because of this most people think that the government is fully prepared and equipped and that they can pull the country out of a large scale disaster. But, they are all wrong. No matter how equipped and prepared the government is, the government still has no power to ensure the safety of every citizen. Actually, preppers are doing the country a great favor by staying prepared for anything and not simply relying on relief from the government. People who choose not to prep even when they have the means are the true burden in society in this era of unpredictability.

Preppers have plenty to spare.  Preppers will surely help anyone who needs some help. But do not expect that preppers will just give out supplies to anybody without expecting anything in return.

Preppers are some sort of collectors. Non-preppers think that being prepared is all about collecting stuff or having enough stuff. Well it’s true that preppers collect a lot of stuff, but these are not just any stuff. Preppers collect items that can be helpful for them to survive a disaster, like items that can help them stay hydrated and warm. Having the right items to store is a must for preppers. Even if you have expensive items, but you do not have a clue on how to use them they will become useless.

Preppers are hoping for bad things to happen. That’s downright crazy! Preppers don’t want or wish for anything like that, just because they will get an opportunity to use their skills. Who on earth would want and wish that something bad will happen and that a large number of population will die, so that they could just show off their own skills? Preppers don’t think that way. Preppers are just being prepared for disasters that might happen in the future.
