Morning in America: The Case for Optimism

It is safe to say that we certainly do live in interesting times.  Saddled with an immoral national debt, a bloated federal government and the increased apathy of millennials, it can sometimes seem like we are circling the drain.  Our commander-in-thief only seems to stop golfing long enough to sign executive actions gutting the constitution.  Add in a whack-a-mole Supreme Court, which pops up to use judicial overreach to speed bag our political nards, and life is tough in 2014.  Where is a self-respecting patriot to turn?

The good news is that there finally is some.  The truth has a way of winning out and you’ll be happy to hear that we are on the precipice of seeing just that.  So lift up that chin and behold…

Four Reasons For Conservetarian Optimism

1.    They All Hate Him Too

We aren’t getting beat, we are beating ourselves.  Obama’s reelection in 2012 was not some endorsement of his progressive policies or his leadership.  It wasn’t a mandate of any sort; it was much more about Mitt Romney’s failures as a candidate, than the president’s fitness for another term.

Read the exit polling information, Romney won over independents in swing states, and Obama drew less support than in 2008.  Those two things are a recipe for success that would make Karl Rove drool.

What failed in 2012 for Romney was that evangelical Christians and the conservative base stayed home.  The party took its key demographic groups for granted, ran a candidate with no principles or conservative chops and paid the price, by failing to defeat Millard Fillmore Part 2.  While it was unconscionable at the time (and reason to bury Rove in the junk drawer of history) it is cause for optimism today.

Look at the mid-term backlash or Obama poll numbers.  No one can stand this guy and everyone would love to make an about face.  It isn’t just red-staters who think we’ve bottomed out; it is anyone with a brain.  If the Republicans are smart enough to run anything other than an empty suit they should win.  And yes, I know that they aren’t smart enough, but that is a different story.

2.     We Show the F Up

In the pantheon of issue-based politics there are three that have proven so toxic as to be unbroachable from a public policy perspective.  For a politician to take them is tantamount to political suicide.  They are:

• Gun Control
• Amnesty for illegals
• Entitlement Reform- specifically social security

Of the three, we find ourselves on the public opinion side of two of them, with the third (entitlement reform) a draw.   Their side is scared of these issues; our side is motivated and pissed.  That is the very cocktail that wins elections.  Progressives tote clipboards, grow beards, collect signatures and door knock.  Conservatives melt the DC phones, attend political forums, speak out and most importantly WE VOTE!  The politicians know that.  They don’t fear the pothead doorknocker, that guy can’t get them fired, we can.

Perhaps most encouraging is the fact that we now have mainstream support on the life issue (even among those mostly useless millennials).  So not only do we have politicians that fear us, we are building a coalition; an issues-based and motivated coalition with clout.

3.      They Suck At This

This is one of the more compelling reasons for optimism.  The left really does suck at this.  Ruling that is.  Nothing exposes the progressive agenda and its lies like implementation.  You want to know why these are bad ideas? Let’s try them out and see.  If you give them enough rope and play the long game, you always win.

This administration is a complete and total Gong Show and anyone who is paying attention can clearly see that.  Our growth strategy should be to put a microphone in front of Barry and slowly back away.

• If you like your doctor you can keep him…
• This will be the most transparent administration in history…
• There’s no corruption in the IRS…
• ISIS is the JV…
• Obamacare won’t add a dime to the deficit…
• I did not have sexual relations with that woman… Miss Lewinsky

The point is that whether it is the Affordable Care Act or a misguided foreign policy based on “understanding other cultures”, actually seeing these policies fail is the best possible way to win minds and showcase the folly.  We are only getting started on this front with the Affordable Care Act, I assure you.  Sadly you could say the same for Militant Islam.

4.     It’s Not About Us

“It is always darkest before the dawn” is a hackneyed cliché, and it also happens to be true.  Great leaders share many qualities, but the best one of these is optimism.  As you lead your families, it is something to keep in mind.  Humankind is set for a renewal.  It is palpable. While I don’t expect our redemption to be led by politicians or men, I do know it is inevitable and they’ll probably play a part, as will you.

The key is to keep your chin up, keep working, paying your taxes, voting and praying.  And do them all with a smile.  Led by our ideas, our ideals, and our God, things can only get better.
