UV Machine Kills Ebola

A San Antonio based company called Xenex is reporting that is has created a robot that can kill Ebola!

Before anybody begins to believe that we are able to stop this virus, we must understand that this robot, dubbed “Little Moe”, is designed to rid a room of dangerous viruses in minutes using ultraviolet (UV) light to damage the viral DNA.

This robot will assist in decontamination of room and surfaces of the virus. It will not stop the spread of the Ebola virus from spreading to people in the body fluids. As was the case with the spread to the second American patient in Dallas, which is an example of person to person transmission of the virus.

Using UV light to kill Ebola is nothing new. One of the decontamination processes they have been using in West Africa is to take bedding and PPE and placing them into the direct sunlight, in order to use the sun’s UV light to decontaminate the material. This machine takes the power of the sun into a closed room in a hospital. This will aid in combatting this virus, but it is not a save all.
