Blood Moon History and What’s YOUR Plan for Cellphone Service Outages?
As I’m sure you all know there will be a lunar eclipse resulting in a “blood moon” visible in certain parts of the world this coming Easter eve. This will be the third in a of series of 4 blood moons, in 2014 and 2015, known as a tetrad. The final blood moon will be on September 28th.
Up until now I considered the blood moon to be a curious event, knowing that it was tied to Bible prophecy, but never really took the time to study it out completely. This week it struck me that maybe a better look into the subject is in order since it is occurring on Passover.
I had done some fantastic studies over the years on the Jewish feasts and how they correlate to the events in Jesus’ life and a recent study on the tetrad turned out to be just as interesting. I found a great website to start reading up on the subject, here it is and I hope you find it just as interesting.

Comms during a cellphone service outage
Our landline service was dropped a few years ago to save money since the wife and I are both on Boost Mobile plans. Last night, you guessed it, our service had an outage last night. Neither one of us were able to make or receive calls and texts were taking about 20 minutes to go through. This wouldn’t really be considered an emergency since the rest of region did have phone service but it did concern me that we would not be able to contact the fire department or EMS should a real emergency develop.
I guess I knew in the back of my mind that a cell tower malfunction could render both of our phones useless. I never did check to see if there was another tower in the area that accepts Boost phones but I got the answer to that last night.
No problem, we had an option on hand to bridge this gap in our preps.
First thing we did was grab one of our trusty Alinco handheld radios and check the Autopatch access on the two closest 2 meter repeaters. An attempt on the first repeater was successful but we had no such luck with the second repeater. Either our access info was wrong or autopatch had been disabled.
Another option that I need to look into is an app to use the phone over wifi. I’m admittedly very slow when it comes to exploring the different apps available so I’ll be looking into that in the coming days.
The last option would be to activate on of my old TracFones and just keeping it available for use around the house. It’s been awhile since I’ve checked TracFone service prices but they used to be less expensive than having a landline.
and speaking of comms……
Here’s a great deal on the Midland 75-785 handheld CB radio. Technology keeps marching on but this radio is still tops in my book for emergency group comms versatility.
It can run on AA batteries or a 12VDC power source.
The supplied antenna can be replaced with coax and an external antenna allowing it to extend it’s range as a mobile radio in a vehicle or a base radio in a home, cabin or LP/OP.
It’s easy to use. Just about anybody can pick this radio up, turn it on and use it properly.
At about the same price as a complicated Baofeng handheld radio, I think it’s the better value for basic communication preps.
