1 Million Gun Owners Thumb Noses, Violate N.Y. Gun Registration Law

One of the nation’s most ambitious gun registration schemes is a total failure, according to new statistics.

It is estimated that less than five percent of what gun control groups call “assault weapons” have been registered in New York state, more than two years after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a law mandating it.

All total, 44,485 firearms by 23,847 people have been registered with the state police, The Albany Times Union reported. The numbers were only released after attorney Paloma Capanna sued the state under the Freedom of Information Law. State attorneys tried to block the release by claiming a database of firearms information was exempt from that law. Even though 23,847 may sound like a lot, it is estimated that 1 million people in the state own such a firearm. That equates to a 2 percent registration rate.

“What these numbers expose is that, if there are people who are willfully ignoring the law, that means tens of thousands of gun owners are not complying with a law that is supported by New Yorkers,” Leah Gunn Barret, the executive director of the gun control group New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, admitted.

Hundreds of Thousands Ignore Law

It means hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers – perhaps up to 1 million — could be violating what is known as the SAFE Act, The New York Daily News reported. The law banned guns such as the AK-47 and required those who already owned similar weapons to register them.

The statistics show that the SAFE Act, which makes possession of an unregistered weapon a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, has failed dismally.

A tally of the statistics published in the Times Union shows just how ineffective the Safe Act is:

  • Only 35 assault weapons were registered in Bronx County, which has a population of 1.4 million.
  • 109 assault weapons were registered in Queens County, which has a population of 2.3 million people.
  • More than 2.6 million people live in Kings County, New York, (which contains much of Brooklyn), but just 54 of them registered assault weapons.
  • The population of Richmond County (Staten Island) is 473,279 but only 52 assault weapons were registered in that jurisdiction.
  • Registration efforts were a little more successful in New York County (Manhattan), where 1,640 assault weapons were registered. The population of Manhattan is a little more than 1.6 million.
  • Albany County; where the state capitol is located, has a population of 308,171 people but only 484 of them bothered to register weapons.

Capanna, the attorney, said the law is being ignored.

“I’m grinning from ear to ear,” she said.

When he signed it on January 16, 2013, Cuomo described the SAFE Act as the toughest gun control law in the nation. Under the law, registration of assault weapons was supposed to be complete by April 15, 2014.

Since then, there has been widespread resistance to the SAFE Act, particularly in rural areas of Upstate New York, where even some police officers and county sheriffs have refused to enforce it.

As I understand it statutes are really nothing more than corporate advisory’s and need you to sign a contract with them to get your compliance and money. Statutes use the word ” Shall” meaning future tense. How do you enforce a non-law that has not even been enacted?

Something to think about. Shall defined.

      shall (shăl)
      aux.v. Past tense should (sho͝od)
      1. Used before a verb in the infinitive to show:
      a. Something that will take place or exist in the future: We shall arrive tomorrow.
      b. An order, promise, requirement, or obligation: You shall leave now. He shall answer for his misdeeds. The penalty shall not exceed two years in prison.
      c. The will to do something or have something take place: I shall go out if I feel like it.
      d. Something that is inevitable: That day shall come.

I believe you are correct. Statutes are basically a motion for you to comply… not yet a law. Once and if you do comply (sign) you will be held to your registration contract.
Example… Register your car… gives them the right to impound it (steal it) and force you to pay money to get it back, or even simply take it and keep it if they “suspect” you got it with the help or for the purpose of criminal activity, whether true or not.
Every thing we do takes a license, permit, registration or whatever. They all require your signature (compliance) on their contract and then they own a little bit more of you, your family and your life. Its a trap they designed long ago with no easy exit for the average “commoner” (slave) be you black, white, brown or green.

They can not actually force you to sign up either but they can make your life as difficult as they can, using all the other previous contracts you entered into with them against you. Of coarse they will fine you for unregistered guns but not much more since you did not sign (comply) into contract with them.

It does not matter if we have been clearly conned into these fraudulent contracts. Typically any evidence of fraud, deception or coercion involved in the signing of any legally binding contract deems it automatically null and void. However this does not matter in our contracts with the “state” we are more typically deemed guilty and held n account: to pay the fines under the laws of the twisted maritime commercial court of the admiral. This kangaroo courts primary interests in justice is to fraudulently collect our money (fines) first and foremost and punish those who cannot pay with prison. The only crime actually committed in the eyes of this court, is that you did not pay.

Good for them. And for the record who ever cut that pipe that the fag-zio Governor stuck his nose in did a professional job. I known I am a pipefitter. Note the soapstone extension lines and perfect cuts. Ya, ok.

I’m sorry, WHY haven’t we carpetbombed these domestic terrorists into the dust yet?

That’s being too easy on them. First, they should be arrested, then all of their assets should be seized as evidence of their crimes. Then after they are found guilty ( that shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes total for all of them). All the property they have stolen should be either given to the rightful owners, or sold off at auction and the money from that and their bank accounts should be used to help pay off the debt they have created. Then they should be put into labor camps and worked hard labor 10 hours a day ( at minimum wage ) until they have paid the rest of the debt they made. After that if any of them are still alive, (might take them a while for to pay off all that debt ) they should be dumped, penniless into the inner city slum’s they created. That, gives them more of a chance to survive that they have given everyone else in the country.

You must understand, no law will be respected if it does not apply to the 10 commandments.
