WDFW Selects Members to Serve on Target Shooting Advisory Committee

YAKIMA, Wash. -(Ammoland.com)- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has selected 20 members to serve on an advisory committee to address target shooting issues within the Wenas Wildlife Area.

The committee members reflect a broad range of interests, including wildlife area neighbors, hunters, target shooters, horseback riders, mountain bike riders, hikers, wildlife watchers, motorized recreationists, and bird dog trainers.

Since the committee will focus on target shooting issues, 15 of the 20 selected members are target shooters and/or hunters.

WDFW has retained a facilitator to coordinate the committee’s activities and help members develop recommendations. Staff from WDFW and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will participate as non-voting committee members.

Over the next several months, the committee will develop recommendations to WDFW on how to provide recreational target shooting opportunities that reflect public needs and interests, protect public safety, preserve wildlife habitat, and reduce fire risk.

The first Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at the Selah Civic Center, 216 S 1st St,. Meetings will be open to the public with designated time for public comment.
