Deadly Fugitives Were On The Loose. Until A Homeowner Grabbed His AR-15.

Two of America’s most wanted and dangerous armed fugitives were captured by a homeowner with an AR-15.

Killers and escaped convicts Ricky Dubose and Donnie Russell “Whisky” Rowe had stolen two Glocks and murdered Corrections Officers Sergeant Curtis Billue and Sergeant Christopher Monica on a prison bus in Putnam County, Ga. The two then made their getaway by carjacking a Honda Civic – an escape that prompted a nationwide manhunt led by the FBI.

“They’re no different than a tank full of piranhas,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said of the prisoners on the bus. Putnam was disgusted by a surveillance tape in which convicts yelled and cheered as the officers were shot, The Miami Herald reported.

Convicts Terrorize Elderly Couple

Dubose and Rowe disappeared but surfaced near Shelbyville, Tenn., on June 15, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. They took an elderly couple hostage in their own home, and robbed them of a Jeep and a cellphone.

The robbery turned into a chase when a state trooper arrived to do a welfare check on the couple. The trooper pursued the two but the Jeep crashed; they ran off into the woods near Christiana, Tenn.

They stumbled out of the woods a short time later and into the yard of an unidentified man and tried to steal a car. Fortunately, the homeowner saw them, grabbed his AR-15 and then pointed it at them. He then made the two lay on the ground until sheriff’s deputies arrived and arrested them. A neighbor helped hold the convicts at bay. The killers were still carrying the dead officers’ Glocks when they surrendered.

Dubose is a known member of the Ghostface Gangsters, a racist gang, who was serving a 20-year sentence. Rowe was serving life without parole for armed robbery at the time of the breakout. They now face the death penalty for their actions.

The two men who helped capture the escapees will split a $141,000 reward from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, The Miami Herald reported. The GBI in a press release praised the “bravery of Tennessee civilians.”
