You’ve Got a Friend… in me?

Most of us want to do the cool lone ranger or Rambo thing when it comes to self defense and survival.  Depending on how good you are, that might work, or it might not.  It’s only your life and your families’ lives that hang in the balance.  Is it worth the risk?

If you get involved in a self defense shooting who you going to call?  Ghost busters aren’t going to help you.  More importantly, who will help your family.  If they are there or at home, they will need some help navigating the “justice” system.  Do they know what to do and who to call?  Probably not.  But I have a close friend or two that I know I can call for help that know the system and will help my family.  Do you know who you would call to take care of your family?

Even in less dramatic problems do you have a support system that you can activate for help?

A couple months ago I was out of town for work and couldn’t get home.  My wife had unspeakable pain in her side.  I was afraid she might be having an appendicitis and told her over to call 911 or go to the emergency room.  She drove herself to the emergency room with our kid.  I called multiple friends for help.  One family went and got our kid.  Another family stayed late into the night with my wife in the emergency room.  Do you have friends that could help you if something goes wrong?  Turned out to be kidney stones (our first and hopefully last).

I thought of this at work today when this happened.

The trailer wheel tried to walk away without the trailer… while I was driving!  This isn’t something I was really versed in and called a friend that I work with and a couple other people for input on how to handle the minor emergency.  With a couple suggestions and a little work, I was able to get back on the road for the last 20 miles to the trailer’s destination.  Now I have about two weeks to get parts and a plan to fix it.

Having friends you can count on and call for all sorts of different things can keep a minor emergency from growing into something major.  And keep major emergencies down to something you can manage. 

If the end of the world comes, you will need people to help you survive.  No man is an island.  As steal sharpens steal, one man sharpens another. 

Besides, life is just better with friends. 

How is your network?  Are you making true friends you can count on?  Or do you make acquaintances at work and in life.  If anything from a medical emergency, to a grid down survival novel, you will do much better with friends you can count on. 

Keep your network strong with people of all talents.  You never know when you might need someone or when you can help someone.  I truly believe in Karma and what goes around, comes around.  If you reach out and help as many people as you can now, when you need that hand, someone will reach out for you.

Find someone to help and make a friend.
