An Update On Health Care Reform

Yesterday I received a Special Edition Newsletter from Senator Kay Hagan regarding the Health Care Bill, which included this video showing our state senator making excuses for a federal takeover of American health care:

Today, Obama hits the street to campaign for the same legislation. The timing for these promotions are suspect and I’m a great believer in the motto; there are no coincidences. Remember, the state of Virginia’s lawsuit against this health care legislation is on the “rocket-docket” and the ruling on whether the lawsuit has sufficient merit to move forward is expected this week. I’m betting the ruling is in VA’s favor otherwise Obama would find no need to defend the bill from the bully pulpit or to create this coordinated effort with his liberal counterparts.

Today is also a “Super Tuesday” and there is no doubt the anti-establishment, anti-incumbent sentiment is strong. The pundits are betting on the House and Senate to turn. We’ll know the results soon enough. The Obama administration is feeling the heat, that there is a strong possibility that this Bill will be repealed or de-funded.

Obama promised “if you like your health insurance you can keep it.” Technically, that is correct but the Bill provides the language that allows the HHS to intrude upon the relationship and breach the contract that you have between your doctor and provider. Only services that agency deems necessary or appropriate are to be reimbursed. This is one example of what the Bill holds and brings me to my third point. The question persists as to whether there are details held within the Bill that will provide the platform for additional lawsuits. Again, there are no coincidences and I’m betting that this Administration has reviewed this piece of Legislation and has discovered additional legal weakness.

My next step will be to contact my health care provider. I will query as to whether they have fully read the Bill and what is the opinion of their legal department. Are they planning on, or willing to pursue legal action? If nothing else, I’m hoping this exercise will plant the seed. Our state’s Attorney General chose the “wait and see what happens in Virginia” approach but that does not mean we cannot pursue or promote additional push-back on this Bill from another angle.
