The Gulf Oil Crisis

To My Representatives,

In regards to the B.P. oil spill, if the oil company had been allowed to drill within the 50-mile radius, or to create fields in ANWR, they would have been able to reduce the risks involved in the extraction. However this was the set condition and new explorations create new problems. To not accept the challenge is defeatist. If a car is involved in an accident, we do not halt production nor do we stop building houses if one develops a roof leak. We learn from the experience in order to do it better next time.

However, it appears Congress and this Administration has no interest in learning. Our President labeled the Gulf residents victims and indeed they are: Victim to an ideology that says Government knows best and because of that, refuses to listen to all the entrepreneurial suggestions for extraction and containment of the spill. They are victims of an oversized, incompetent government that lacks any empathy for the millions who will be impacted by this. Instead, you plan to use their plight to further your agenda in the energy sector. Never “let a crisis go to waste” and prostitute the people. The last thing I wish to see is the manipulation of these persons. They do not need to be pawns in some scheme to promote Cap & Trade. I urge you to table any legislation in this regard as it sends a self-serving message. Additionally, to halt the deep water drilling will destroy all hopes for the Gulf residents’ economic recovery. Please represent the interest of the Gulf Coast residents rather than your own.
