Reflections on the Rent-A-Mob

A mob of people descend upon a city center. What they leave behind them says a lot about who they are.

This group of citizens has the primary concern of preserving uninterrupted government handouts. They have been raised in a culture of that tells them they are victims of circumstance, deserving of the fruits of other people’s labor, not responsible for their own actions or inaction, accountable to no one, entitled to all. From birth, they are delivered into the world on government provided medical benefits; they are fed on government provided foodstamps; they are raised on government provided daycare and afterschool care; they are educated with government provided grants; they are protected in their jobs by government regulations and quotas and their union benefactors, and finally, they are ushered into retirement on union provided pensions.

I’ll speculate that most were never told to clean up after themselves. Most were never forced to work hard to succeed. Most were taught early how to get what they need from others. Most were told in so many ways, every day of their lives, “Someone else will do that for you. You are entitled.”

Government is a non-producing entity. It does not create wealth. The money it spends comes from tax revenue.

Fifty percent of the citizens of this nation pays no income taxes, or receives enough back from the government to negate the income taxes it paid.

Fifty percent of the nation is paying the tab for the other fifty percent. That’s you and me. We’re paying for the benefits the other 50% consumes, the programs they participate in, the jobs needed to perpetuate these benefits and programs, and more. We consume far less of these benefits, yet we pay for them all.

Naturally, their numbers are increasing and ours are decreasing. Who, given the easy path to serfdom, would choose hard labor? Who would choose to work hard only to have the fruits of his labor stolen and given to his lazy neighbor? Who would choose to create wealth and jobs for a nation whose leaders vilify him and encourage the shiftless to spit upon him? Who would choose to struggle to make a profit in a marketplace made nearly impossible by government interference? Fifty percent of us. By 2012, that number will be in the 40′s. We will be outnumbered by consumers of wealth.

A rude, ungrateful, and careless majority who will consume the fruits of our labor with an insatiable appetite and who will grow in number. This is unsustainable, and the trend toward consumership is gaining momentum. The question is not whether our society will crash, but when.

Now, go tell your children to clean their rooms. They are our last hope.
