If Only Barack Obama had Listened to Barack Obama’s Warnings on the Economy

When Barack Obama was running for president in 2008, he built his campaign around the idea that George W. Bush had created one of the biggest economic disasters in the history of the country and Obama was the only one who could fix it.  Four years later, after his policies have only succeeded in making everything worse than it already was, Barack Obama is running for reelection on the claim that the reason he has failed to fix the economy is because he had no idea how badly George Bush had screwed it up.  Logically, at least one of these campaign platforms has to be a total lie.

From the very beginning of his term in office, Obama’s policies have read like a guide on how to screw up an economy.  His stimulus program borrowed money we didn’t have in order to fund projects we didn’t need.  When our debt increased by trillions of dollars as a result, he laughed off the lack of results by claiming the “shovel-ready jobs” he had promised “weren’t as shovel-ready as we thought.”  He crippled domestic drilling, halted projects like the Keystone Pipeline which would have created thousands of jobs, and instead sent billions of dollars overseas to subsidize oil production in other nations.  He actively worked to expand government programs, increased dependence upon the government, and labeled American taxpayers and businessmen–and even those who had just been responsible with their own money–as being the greedy cause of the problems which now plague the poor.

Obama claims now that his plans just need more time to work, but this is time the American people cannot afford.  Not only is it time lost, but it is time spent ensuring that everything will get worse.  Allowing Obama to stay in office will enable him to funnel more money into failed “green energy” companies and overseas interests which have supported him, while ignoring our own domestic resources.  Allowing Obama to stay in office will result in tax rates increasing dramatically as early as January.  Allowing Obama to stay in office ensures Republicans will be unable to overturn Obamacare, which will cause insurance rates and medical costs–as well as more taxes–to skyrocket.

Obama knew the economy was in rough shape when he campaigned to be president in 2008.  He promised everyone he could fix it; he wanted the job.  Now, we are led to believe that–while he is not in over his head–conditions were worse than he anticipated.  This is a complete lie.  How did increasing the national debt to $16 trillion come into play when he promised he would cut it down to $5 trillion instead?  If he had a way out, we should be on the track to it already.  He had two years of Democrat control of two entire branches of government, and he squandered it right along with our national credit rating and our standing on the world stage.
 
The 2008 campaign of “Yes we can!” has given way to the 2012 excuse of “We didn’t because . . .”

The logic behind electing Barack Obama to fix an economic meltdown has never made sense.  Obama is a theoretician who has spent the majority of his life locked in the halls of academia and rarely ventured outside into the real world.  His résumé could only list his previous job experience as “Chicago politician” and “community organizer.”  He was educated by a string of Marxist professors and surrounded himself with other communist friends whenever possible (all by his own admission in his book Dreams From My Father), making him the exact wrong person to revitalize a capitalist economy.  Of course, no one knew any of this in 2008, because the media did their best to hide it from us and all his supporters cared about was that he could be the first black president.

This time around, Obama’s record is clear and his incompetence is on display.  His supporters and his lapdogs in the media will lie about it and continue to blame Bush, but they cannot entirely hide the truth, and the longer they use that line, the more blatantly false it proves to be.  There is no disguising that debt, unemployment, and the size of government have all increased on Obama’s watch.  He is no longer a blank slate offering “hope” for “change”; he is a politician with a record of failure, and a promise that we must move “forward” into further hardship.

Obama did not campaign on the promise that he would spend the entire first year of his presidency pushing for a massive health care bill which the country would overwhelmingly reject, but he did that anyway, and rammed it through Congress against the wishes of the American people.  He then turned his “laser-like focus” to disarming our nuclear program, waffling on gay marriage, working on his golf strokes . . . literally everything BUT the economy.  In fact, not only has Obama done very little of what he campaigned on, but very little of what he has done was anything he campaigned on.

Barack Obama was elected on the basis that he alone could fix the economy, and if he didn’t succeed before the 2012 election, he would be a one-term president.  Because he has failed so entirely, we owe it to him to help him keep this one promise.
