Sexist or just Fact?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I have never considered myself sexist as I don’t care if you are male or female, if you are in politics and make a mistake or is developing mindless policies I and many others will come after you with our comments and blogs.

If people are talking about women in politics it is probably due to this:

  1. Anna Bligh – former Qld Labor leader and Premier – her party suffered the worst defeat of a sitting government in Queensland history, winning only seven seats. In the wake of the loss, Bligh announced her immediate resignation as leader of the Queensland Labor Party. She also announced that she would resign from parliament and retire from politics, effective 30 March 2012.
  2.  Kristina Kerscher Keneally – No I am not kidding KKK – former NSW Labor Premier – the Labor government was heavily defeated, suffering a swing of over 16 per cent—the largest in a general election at any level in Australia since World War II. In the process, Labor lost many seats in its former western Sydney heartland, some with swings of over 20 percent.Ultimately, Labor was cut down to 20 seats (down from 48 at dissolution), its worst showing in over a century and one of the worst defeats a sitting state government in Australia has ever suffered.

  3. Joan Elizabeth Kirner joined the Australian Labor Party in 1978 and became a member of its Socialist Left faction.   In August 1990, Kirner was elected Labor leader and thus became Victoria’s first female Premier.  In October 1992  the electorate would no longer accept the continued mismanagement and waste which had occurred throughout the ALP hold on government. The Victorian Liberal Party made sure the electorate didn’t forget the damage done to Victoria by the Labor Government with the very successful “Guilty Party” campaign, which targeted many Ministers in the Kirner Government and provided examples of their failures. The Victorian Coalition won the election in a landslide result, with Liberal Party winning enough seats that it could have governed in its own right. Kirner stayed on as Opposition Leader for a short period, then resigned. She retired from Parliament in 1994.

  4. Carmen Mary Lawrence – formerWA Labor & Premier of WA  12 February 1990 – 16 February 1993.   In the election held on 6 February 1993, the Lawrence government was defeated by the Liberal-National coalition and Richard Court, who had replaced Barry MacKinnon as opposition leader just a year earlier, became Premier. Lawrence remained as Opposition Leader until early 1994.   On 25 March 1994, she was appointed Minister for Human Services and Health and Minister assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women in the Keating government.   On 21 February 1997, she was charged with three counts of perjury resulting from the findings of the Marks Royal Commission. She stood down from the shadow ministry pending her trial. She was acquitted on 23 July 1999 due to insufficient evidence.

  5. Anne Katherine (Kate) Carnell – former ACT Liberal member and Chief Minister for ACT.  After winning 7 of 17 seats in the 1995 ACT election, the Liberal Party formed a minority government with Carnell as Chief Minister. The government was re-elected in the 1998 election.  The Carnell Government was severely criticised following the death of twelve year old Katie Bender, when the de-commissioned Royal Canberra Hospital was imploded on 13 July 1997 to make way for the National Museum of Australia. Katie Bender died instantly when she was struck by a one kilogram fragment of steel which had been thrown about 430 metres across Lake Burley Griffin by the force of the explosion. The Coroner cleared Carnell as Chief Minister of any personal responsibility.  The Coroner did find in his report that the Government had turned the implosion into a ‘public circus’ and that this was with the approval of the Chief Minister.  In October 2000, Carnell faced a no-confidence motion in relation to cost over-runs in the Bruce Stadium redevelopment project. The project had a $27.3 million budget, of which $12.3 million was provided for by the ACT government and $15 million was to be sourced from the private sector. However, the project eventually cost $82 million, and was solely funded by the government.  An ACT Auditor-General’s review found that the project’s $27.3 million cost estimate had not undergone proper assessment, review or analysis.  Carnell resigned as Chief Minister on 17 October 2000, before the no-confidence motion was moved against her.

  6. Julia Eileen Gillard – On 24 June 2010, Gillard, organised a Coup with assistance of the Unions and far Left of the Party and became federal leader of the Australian Labor Party and thus the Prime Minister, the first female holder of the office.  The 2010 federal election saw the first hung parliament since the 1940 federal election. The incumbent Gillard Labor government was able to form a minority government with the support of an Australian Greens Member of Parliament (MP) and three independent MPs on a 76–74 margin, defeating the Liberal/National Coalition opposition led by Tony Abbott. Labor received 50.12 percent of the two-party-preferred vote.  In 1987, Gillard joined the law firm Slater & Gordon at Werribee, Melbourne, working in industrial law. In 1990, at the age of 29, she was admitted as a partner.  Ms Gillard resigned from  Slater & Gordon in May, 1996, after a issue with her dealings with the AWU Reform Association she set up and run by her then boyfriend  Bruce Wilson
  7. Although only a minority Government Ms Gillard with the assistance of the Greens has the numbers in the Senate and has been introducing Legislation that not only was not mentioned at the last election was in direct contrast to her stated position at the last election including legislation making it costly to repeal these policies when the Coalition wins Government with a clear mandate to repeal the legislation.
The issue surrounding Ms Gillard’s involvement with Bruce Wilson’s scam Association in 1992-3 keeps gathering momentum as Gillard tries to block the questions that still exist.  These measures have included the muzzling of certain media outlets,
Attacks on certain websites and new spying laws allowing the government access to details of Social Media users and Bloggers..
The NBN still is rolling out with no costing being done and is set to at least double the original budget estimate if not more.   The BER that blew out it’s budget by more than double due to poor management of the programme.
When the Carbon Tax was introduced compensation has been paid out to business and low income earners, yet like with all her policies mid to high income earners are hit with higher tax ore precluded from programmes.

Pensioners have had no significant pension rises and the additional costs allowed to increase under this Government has meant in a number of cases they live without heating and without having 3 meals a day.  This Government is continuing to ignore this issue, however gave Parliamentarians between 31-47% pay rises.
This Government came into office with $22 billion surplus and no debt. This is now a budget deficit, the Government is hiding these figures and they have left us a debt of $229,364,199,431 to date

Ms Gillard holds a further distinction of being the first female Communist Prime Minister of Australia.

I know men have not fared much better however it is people like Gillard calling us sexist and threatened by women in power that this blog is addressed to and if some people are seen as being sexist it is hard not to suggest a number of Labor female Premiers have been disasters in their positions and therefore have no positive leadership stories to portray..
