SD City Council's First Order of Biz - Raise Taxes!

San Diego City Council has a new president, Todd Gloria. His first order of business is to a call to raise taxes. He’s pondering a 1/2 cent sales tax. As is customary, they identify a sympathetic cause (children, veterans, leaky school roofs, elderly, etc) to justify the increased spending and this time it’s potholes, roads and other infrastructure. Take special notice that increased government spending is never earmarked for bureaucracy, administration or other politically incorrect overhead, but that’s where it will be spent.

Voters would be well served to ignore the trumpeted use of tax hikes because all the money eventually goes into the same pot to fund larger government regardless of where they claim it will be spent. In 2010 San Diego voters pummeled a 1/2 cent sales tax hike with a 62% NO vote ignoring pleas that monies would go to police and fire services and without the funds chaos would reign in the streets. Now they’ll try again using roads as the justification. Lets hope voters see through this attempt to raid their wallets as in 2010.
