Do Liberals Even Remember Obama’s Promises?

Liberals ranging from the average unwashed hippie on the street to the average unwashed host on MSNBC have blindly supported Barack Obama from the instant he announced he was running for president, and to this day they insist he is the greatest man to ever hold the office and can do absolutely no wrong.  This raises a couple of very important questions.  First, did they believe everything he told them when he was making his campaign promises?  And if so, have they noticed that most of what he has done since assuming the office has been precisely the opposite of what he told them he would do?

When Barack Obama was campaigning in 2007 and 2008, he didn’t give us a lot of specifics about what he was going to do once he got the job.  He never told us he was going to gut our health care system, or target American citizens with armed military drones, or wiretap the entire country.  He told us he was bringing “hope” and “change,” and he implied through his constant demonization of George W. Bush that he was going to do everything exactly the opposite of what the 43rd president had been doing.

He often dropped popular lines about how he would close down the Gitmo facility within the year (which is still up and running), or end the war in Afghanistan (which he expanded), or cut our national debt in half (which he has instead increased by more than 50%).  He also made the usual universally-appealing promises of cutting the influence of the “special interests” (whose lobbyists now make up roughly half of his staff and cabinet), leading a transparent administration (which has stonewalled every inquiry into every questionable act they have ever carried out), and to cut wasteful government spending (HA!).

It should be glaringly obvious to even the most uninformed citizens that Obama has either ignored all of his promises, or worse yet, gone in the exact opposite direction of where he promised to lead us.  However, this did not stop his supporters from blindly following him, championing his reelection, and voting for him again in 2012.  Granted, the administration and their allies in the media managed to suppress most of Obama’s major scandals until it was too late for an informed public to make a wiser decision, but one would think the average anti-war and “right to privacy” Democrat would have tired of Obama’s inability to keep a promise even before they found out the NSA was monitoring their phone calls and calling in assassinations around the globe.

Instead, the typical far-left Democrat—who claimed at the time to hate George W. Bush for doing exactly the same things Barack Obama is now doing—says their one complaint about this president is that he is not liberal enough!  Apparently, transforming the United States medical system into a bureaucratic socialist nightmare and using the IRS to silence and punish their political enemies is not going far enough.  Democrat voters won’t be satisfied until they have entirely decimated the sanctity of marriage, granted amnesty to all illegal aliens, and disarmed law-abiding citizens through a complete repeal of the Second Amendment.

Obama himself claims that his lack of progress is due to a Constitution which “constrains” him, and an uncooperative Republican-controlled House of Representatives.  This statement completely ignores the fact that Obama’s first two years in office were strengthened by Democrat control of both houses of Congress, a totally gutless Republican “opposition,” and a public that was largely willing to blindly follow our new non-Bush (and black!) president wherever he might lead.  Even with all of that, all he got done was the passage of an unwanted health care plan and a few trillion dollars in wasteful spending added to the national debt.

Furthermore, Obama has hardly allowed the Constitution to “constrain” him.  He has made a habit of doing things like appointing controversial underlings as “recess appointments” when Congress was not actually in recess, and then outright ignoring court rulings condemning him for these illegalities.  At every opportunity, Barack Obama arrogantly snubs the Constitution he took an oath to uphold.

In matters such as the NSA wire-tapping of American citizens, Obama and his ilk refuse to accept the blame for the situation, and instead claim the fault lies with George W. Bush.  (Big surprise, right?)  After all, the Patriot Act and other such practices which the liberals abhorred until Obama took office initially started under the previous administration.  However, where the Bush administration targeted foreign communications for the purposes of preventing terror attacks after 9-11, the Obama administration targets American citizens for the purposes of preventing opposition victories like the Tea Party wins of 2010.

The same Barack Obama and loyal liberals who criticized Bush and conservatives for overreacting to the threat of violent Islamic terrorists aren’t about to take any chances with the threat of peaceful Tea Party Christians.

The claim that “this was Bush’s program” has been falsely used many times before, most notably in the “Fast & Furious” gunrunning scandal which armed Mexican drug cartels and led to the murder of a US border agent.  The Democrat and media talking point was that the program started under Bush, but in fact “Operation: Wide Receiver” was an entirely different program intended as a sting operation, and cancelled in 2007, well before Obama was even elected.  To this day, the administration still will not tell us the supposed purpose of Fast & Furious, and Obama wrapped Attorney General Eric Holder in Executive Privilege in order to essentially plead the 5th.  (See a pattern here?  More of that infamous “transparency” we were promised.)

At this rate, expect the Obama administration to begin unilaterally disarming and detaining Americans of a specific ethnic background and then claim they are merely continuing the practices set in motion by FDR.

Barack Obama—who was so intellectually lazy that he almost exclusively voted “present” throughout his career in the Illinois state legislature—gave a number of impassioned speeches during the Bush presidency to condemn that administration for their anti-terror tactics, and likely did not make an appearance throughout his first presidential campaign without promising to shut down Gitmo by the end of his first year in office.  Why then did he expand on every “big brother” program Bush had helped sign into place?  Why, four years later, is Gitmo still in full operation?  And perhaps more importantly, why are the media, college professors, and all other liberals so silent on these issues now that Obama is in charge of them?

The answer is the same reason why the Democrats are now silent on the record high cost of fuel in the Obama years as opposed to the Bush years.  When gas was over $2 per gallon under Bush, it would lead the nightly news broadcasts as a crisis, and Bush was to blame.  When gas is more than $4 under Obama, the media is silent.

The same Chris Matthews who railed against Bush policies all throughout his presidency now claims Barack Hussein Obama has never done anything wrong, even when he continues many of those Bush policies Matthews once condemned.  The same Jay Carney who wrote columns attacking the Bush administration’s practices now fends off the Washington press corps when confronted on those same practices remaining in place under Barack Obama.  And the same Barack Obama who campaigned on “change” has now apparently changed his mind about which laws he does and does not approve of.

To liberals, the rule of law is unimportant; what matters is the ideology of the person in charge and the objective of their violation.  When Bush, as a capitalist Christian Republican, was using the federal government to combat Islamic terrorists by infringing on their privacy, then it was a serious problem.  But when Obama, as an Islamic-sympathizing socialist Democrat, uses the full power of the federal government to infringe on the rights of individual citizens of the United States in order to maintain his own political power, then liberals have no problem with this.  (And if any of us have a problem with that, then it must be because we are racists, and the IRS should probably be auditing us for our political beliefs.)

This liberal hypocrisy is nothing new, but this oppressive approach to silencing opposition is unlike anything the United States has witnessed since our founding; it is straight out of the Barack Obama and Saul Alinsky playbook, and will continue until Obama is dragged kicking and screaming from the Oval Office.  Now that it has been identified, the only option available to a freedom-loving people is to unite against it and confront it head on.  Obama and the Democrats are clearly out to destroy the Republican opposition and the Constitution, and they no longer even care to disguise their purpose.  Unless Republicans acknowledge that and respond accordingly, then tyranny has already won.
