The Denial of Preexisting Coverage

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

When Barack Obama was working to con the nation into accepting Obamacare, he famously promised, “If you like your health insurance you can keep it.  Period.”  This statement, along with the same line about keeping our doctors, was repeated innumerable times as Obama attempted to discredit his opposition as conspiracy theorists who were seeking to halt his universal health program because they were just plain mean and probably racist.  And now that Obamacare is up and running—unlike its multi-million-dollar website—we know that those nasty conservative critics were right the whole time.

But don’t expect the Democrats to admit this.  Their story is the insurance companies are the villains, as they have been all along.

Health care programs across the country have been dumping existing health insurance plans for millions of customers who had enjoyed the services those programs provided.  The administration naturally blames those nasty insurance companies, but the truth is they had no choice.  Obama’s administration has imposed new guidelines dictating what services
insurance companies must provide, and those guidelines are strategically designed to render existing health plans obsolete.

In other words, the government is forcing insurance companies to drop programs, and then blaming those companies for abandoning their customers.  They are shifting the responsibility to escape their own culpability and make the “greedy and heartless” insurance agencies the “bad guys.”  By law, the insurance companies have no choice but to do as Obamacare commands, but they still suffer the blame.

This is eerily similar to what the Democrats brought us with the Community Reinvestment Act which forced lenders to provide “predatory loans” to people they knew could not pay them back, which is what led to the bursting of the housing bubble in 2008.  Like the Affordable Care Act, that liberal program was also shoved down the throat of an industry which did not want it and forced them to be the villains.  We are still digging out of that progressive disaster, and to this day the Democrats and their media wing are spinning that Jimmy Carter government program and its collapse as the handiwork of evil bankers and George W. Bush.

But now that the Obamacare marketplace is open, people have somewhere to go to buy comparable insurance to replace the programs they just lost . . . right?  Wrong.  First, the government web site isn’t working so there is nowhere to go to buy the government option.  Second, the few individuals who have successfully navigated the broken site have learned to their horror that the government programs are ridiculously expensive and carry deductibles which make them entirely impractical.

In effect, the people who promised us Obamacare would allow us to keep our existing insurance have engineered the destruction of that preexisting insurance and replaced it with something dramatically more expensive.  And they have the audacity to describe this as “affordable care.”

Naturally, the liberals are doing their best to spin this bait-and-switch, since even their own base is beginning to realize how they all got suckered.  The new line is that Obamacare is the only real insurance out there because all of the other insurance options were “insufficient for our needs.”  Did you know you never really had health insurance before?  Most people weren’t aware of that, especially considering how essential it always seemed to all of us.  One can only wonder how anyone managed to survive for so long without it.  They are even going so far as to say the previous programs were “illegal,” and technically they are correct in this, but only because the Democrats themselves just made them illegal.

So when Obama said, “If you like your health insurance, you can keep it,” what he really meant was, “If we like your health insurance, you can keep it.”

And what makes Obama or anyone in his administration an expert in what people need for health care?  As we’ve previously covered, this is an administration made up of theoreticians.  Their jobs experts have no experience in the business world, their treasury secretary botched his own taxes, and their leader is a community organizer.  None of them know anything about how anything is actually supposed to get done.  The one thing they do understand is the foundation of a socialist government, of which centralized health care if the cornerstone.

As for the increased costs and unworkable requirements, the liberal spin is that the government plan covers more health “needs” than had been covered before.  Of course, this assumed things such as that a man might need a mammogram or an eighty-year-old nun might require birth control pills in bulk like Sandra Fluke.  The reason we weren’t paying insurance for many medical conditions before is because we never would have needed it for those things.  Now we have no choice.

Obamacare works like this:  You go into a restaurant and are told you can have anything off the menu.  You aren’t very hungry so you order a salad.  The restaurant tells you they don’t think that’s enough, so they send you hamburger.  But the hamburger meat is rancid.  Then they bill you for a lobster, and also for the lobsters eaten by the politician and his friends dining at the next table over.  That, in a nutshell, is how the Democrats feel “affordable health care” should be.

Now that Obama is safely in office for the next three years, this is the reality the American people are waking up to.  It is the reality of what comes of Democrat promises, the reality of where liberal intentions lead, and the reality of what Barack Obama always intended.  The web site doesn’t work, the “options” are non-existent, and the “affordable” price is anything but.

And if the “affordable” part sounds bad, just wait until we get to the “care.”
