Pick Glenn McConnell for College of Charleston

Regarding arguments from some quarters that Lt. Gov. McConnell lacks qualifications to lead the College of Charleston: some of the best CEOs in industry have no direct experience manufacturing the products that their company makes, but bring leadership, organizational and management skills to their job and inspire their employees to excel in satisfying their customers . Colleges are an industry and each is charged with satisfying their customers (parents and students) in turning out a product —educated, employable people.

I believe McConnell is well suited for the C of C presidency. The claims that McConnell is “unfit” or “unqualified”, especially coming from our local NAACP, is laughable. I was not a huge fan of McConnell when he led the SC Senate, and I disagreed with him many times. But his accomplishments in the SC Senate over the long haul and his ability to bring people together to get things done are well documented. The people running the local NAACP are doing little to actually advance the condition of black Americans. It seems that we never hear anything from them unless it’s to complain about discrimination, victimhood and second class citizenship of blacks, and blaming these conditions on whites.

Janet Napolitano, former governor of Arizona and Secretary of Homeland Security, was appointed president of the University of California system last year.  She had not had a single day of academic leadership experience —-you can look it up —- and being a liberal Democrat lawyer and politician, she counts herself among the political party whose policies perpetuate and actually promote victim hood and dependency on government among all people, including blacks.  Having never attended a University of California system school, she is less qualified to lead an academic institution than McConnell. At least he’s a C of C graduate.

I suggest that our local NAACP leaders go to California and protest her. She and her liberal Democrat political associates have done more to hurt the condition of blacks than any Republican politician, least of all McConnell, that I can think of.
