Obamacare for Energy: Obama’s Controversial Clean Power Plan

Attorney General Chris Koster has a decision to make. We hope he chooses serving the people of Missouri over President Obama’s carbon regulations.

The controversial clean power plan is a national energy tax at best, and at worst it could be construed as a federal takeover of the electricity system. It is for all intents and purposes Obamacare for energy.

Attorney General Koster should join the growing number of states challenging the controversial clean power plan’s legality.

Missouri derives 81% of its electricity from coal. Obama’s energy tax will punish the Missouri tax payer. If this is implemented middle-class families can expect higher household costs. General Koster has the opportunity to protect Missouri citizens.

Damaging our economy

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) plans to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from power plants (the controversial clean power plan) will do serious damage to our economy.

According to a report issued by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, the cost to America’s economy is likely to be above $50 billion a year between now and 2030. This is unacceptable.

President Obama’s Plan

In June of 2014, the EPA proposed the controversial clean power plan, President Obama’s hallmark climate change enterprise. Last month, the EPA released the final version of its plan.

The CEO of the utility company AMEREN immediately responded with a statement expressing concern “because these changes will drive costs higher for all [their] customers, and this may be especially challenging for [their] low- and fixed-income customers.” He went onto say that his company will continue their “careful analysis of the over 1,500-page final rule”, which is one more in a long line of Obama Administration executive fiats.

What makes this worse than Obamacare is that Congress did not approve this. The courts have not adjudicated it. Obamacare for energy usurps state authority over the energy sector and takes control of our electrical system which will raise the price of your utility bill.

State Action

Where to start? First, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster can join the lawsuit against the controversial clean power plan. Thus far 16 attorneys general have filed suit against this federal takeover. Citizens should contact the Attorney General’s office to encourage Mr. Koster to join the lawsuit against Obama’s punitive EPA plan.

Next the Missouri General Assembly can and should make sure that there are no resources for compliance and no compliance until all legal challenges are expended.

Our elected officials have a duty to protect Missourians from President Obama’s power grab. Call your state rep. and senators now and encourage them to take action.
