Why is Del. Chris Peace Donating Money to Democrat Levar Stoney, a McAuliffe / Clinton Operative?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Delegate Chris Peace

I couldn’t believe what I read in the Richmond Times Dispatch. Delegate Chris Peace, who just happens to be MY Delegate is donating money to Democrat Levar Stoney, a McAuliffe pal and former GreenTech employee who admitted he lied to investigators who questioned him in a Milwaukee County tire slashing incident in 2004. McAuliffe appointed Stoney as Secretary of the Commonwealth back in 2013.

Stoney is now running for Mayor of Richmond.

And Republican Delegate Chris Peace is donating money to put a McAuliffe pal and Democratic Operative in office.

With a history like this:

“McAuliffe has now appointed Levar Stoney, a GreenTech employee and McAuliffe’s former deputy campaign manager, to be secretary of the commonwealth,” Slate said Wednesday in an article headlined “Terry McAuliffe Begins His Reign of Sleaze.”

The story quoted from an earlier Watchdog.org story about Stoney’s appointment to the Cabinet position.

“Aside from the whole GreenTech ethics investigation, in 2004 Stoney was embroiled in a scandal involving Democratic operatives who slashed the tires of vans meant to drive Republican voters in Milwaukee County to the polls,” Slate said.

Slate linked to a news article recounting that Stoney “said he initially lied to police because he did not want to give up the names of the defendants, whom he grew close to during long days courting voters in Milwaukee.”

“’I wasn’t going to try and get my friends, my colleagues, in trouble. Nor was I going to get the Democratic Party in trouble as well,’” Stoney was quoted as saying

“But as soon as FBI agents began calling him in Virginia, he decided to come clean about what happened on the morning of the election, he said,” the story reported.

Sowande Omokunde, son of U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wis., and three others were convicted of criminal damage to property.

Stoney, who returned to Virginia after the 2004 election, was not charged.

And you can read more about the 2004 Milwaukee County WI tire slashing incident here where the report shows that “40 tires on 25 separate vehicles were damaged during the course of this incident. The total cost for repairing the tires was $4,192.35. In addition, the towing charges were $1,125.00. Mr. Wiley stated that he had rented the vehicles and that he and the Republican Party of Wisconsin were responsible for repairing the damage. He further stated that he had given no one in the world permission or consent to slash the tires. Mr. Wiley had rented the vans for the purposes of being used to transport voters to the polling places on November 2, 2004 as well as transporting poll watchers to their poll locations.”

And Breitbart reported:

Court TV reported that “[t]he testimony of Smith and her three out-of-state co-workers, Myesha Ward, Levar Stoney and Lashaunda Williams generally echoed previous statements of Opel Simmons III, an earlier witness and the leader of the get-out-the-vote group who told jurors of the defendants’ behavior after the alleged slashing.”

“But,” according to the Court TV report, “like Simmons, the witnesses all admitted to lying to police in the hours after the slashing and then changing their stories in interviews with FBI agents during the months after the election.”

Court TV reported that Stoney, McAuliffe’s new selection to be Virginia’s Secretary of the Commonwealth, “said he initially lied to police because he did not want to give up the names of the defendants, whom he grew close to during long days courting voters in Milwaukee.”

“I wasn’t going to try and get my friends, my colleagues, in trouble. Nor was I going to get the Democratic Party in trouble as well,” Stoney admitted in court.

Stoney, however, changed his tune “as soon as the FBI agents began calling him in Virginia.” That’s when “he decided to come clean about what happened on the morning of the election.”

So the big question is, given the history of Governor McAuliffe who is under federal investigation for possible illegal donations from Chinese sources, and the connections to Stoney as his deputy campaign manager and past GreenTech employee, why would a Republican possibly be urges to donate money to this guy?

The Times Dispatch reported:

Stoney’s results are not entirely surprising. While this is his first run for public office, he is a longtime aide to Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who made a career out of fundraising within the Democratic Party before his run for governor.

McAuliffe is among Stoney’s contributors, according to the source, as is Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, Secretary of Education Anne Holton and former Sen. Henry Marsh, who served as the first African American mayor of Richmond in 1977.

A number of current members of the House of Delegates and Senate also contributed to Stoney’s campaign, according to the source, though, none represent Richmond: Sen. Scott Surovell, Sen. Chap Petersen, Sen. Louise Lucas, Del. Chris Peace and Del. Marcus Simon.

And you know it’s bad when even Joe Morrissey, the oft embattled former Democrat delegate had this to say to Stoney:

“Reputable news organizations including CNN have reported that Governor McAuliffe is under Federal Investigation for receiving $120,000.00 from Chinese Businessman, Wang Wenliang,” said Morrissey. “That money and possibly other McAuliffe political contributions are tainted and potentially criminal.”

What on earth is Republican Delegate Chris Peace thinking? This is amazingly poor judgement and a poor example from an elected Republican official.

Peace already has a lot of people calling him a RINO and calling for him to be Cantored. (Defeated in a primary by a true Conservative like Eric Cantor was.)

Have you forgotten which party you are with, Chris?
