Leftists get a taste of their own medicine… freak out

Time and again the political left has labeled Americans as racists, misogynists and closeminded hatemongers based on little other evidence than support for conservative candidates in U.S. elections or espousing conservative values. But somehow it’s forbidden for conservatives to call out liberals for harebrained beliefs.

Consider the case of Canadian professor Jordan Peterson who ignited a firestorm of protest for declaring that he doesn’t believe government officials should force him to use genderless pronouns in his University of Toronto classroom. He’s not a U.S. citizen–  but American media has held him up as an example of hateful U.S. conservative sentiments spreading outside of the nation.

Peterson explained his reasoning thusly in an interview with CBC: “I don’t recognize another person’s right to decide what words I’m going to use, especially when the words they want me to use, first of all, are non-standard elements of the English language and they are constructs of a small coterie of ideologically motivated people. They might have a point but I’m not going to say their words for them.”

His point, from a free speech perspective, is reasonable enough. But that didn’t stop pundits and social justice warriors across North America for skewering him as a bigot.

Meanwhile, at universities throughout the U.S. it’s become common practice for professors to attack students who hold conservative beliefs with no fear of backlash.

A University of Texas professor told students back in 2014 that Tea Party political positions are the same as those that were held by Nazis.

A Washington State professor told white students in his “Multicultural Literature” class that the best way to succeed in the course was to demonstrate a willingness to defer to nonwhite students. He also threatened to fail students who used words like “male,” “female,” and “illegal alien.”

A Rutgers professor told classes that the religious right worships an “asshole” God.

“I call this god, the god of white supremacy and patriarchy,” she claimed.

But while stories like Peterson’s spread like wildfire among the mainstream press, college discrimination of campus conservatives is ignored. Most coverage of those situations is found only from small conservative alternative media outlets.

The small government advocates at Turning Point USA are trying to change that with a website that calls out college professors who discriminate against conservatives in the classroom or base grades on students’ willingness to line up behind modern liberal ideals.

Its website, Professor Watchlist, keeps a running list of professors who abuse their classroom pulpits to attack conservative viewpoints or who promote leftist conspiracy theories as matters of academic fact.

“This website is an aggregated list of pre-existing news stories that were published by a variety of news organizations throughout the past few years. While we accept tips for new additions on our website, we only publish profiles on incidents that have already been reported somewhere else. TPUSA will continue to fight for free speech and the right for professors to say whatever they wish; however students, parents, and alumni deserve to know the specific incidents and names of professors that advance a radical agenda in lecture halls,” the website says.

The left isn’t happy.

Slate writer Rebecca Schuman called the website’s mission to out discriminatory leftists in academia as “grotesque.”

The site, she reckons, creates “a one-stop shop of easy marks and their precise locations, complete with descriptions of offenses against America, God, and the ‘children of the sun.’”

“Whether it intends to or not, this list watches over us at our country’s darkest turning point, poised to inflame the tinder-dry, gasoline-soaked pitchforks of a mob that has just stepped boldly into the light,” Schuman contends.

In order to accept what Schuman is saying, however, one first must believe every liberal talking point the professors in question would have their students accept.

Donald Trump is an unashamed racist and misogynist.

White males in America have an undying desire to see minorities and women fail.

People who voted for Trump are white supremacists who would cheer a new and federalized era of Jim Crow.

Minorities and women who adhere to conservative philosophies have been abused into submission by the white male patriarchy and are suffering from a kind of Stockholm syndrome.

In addition to accepting all of the above, believing that advocating free speech and room for debate from all sides on all issues is a bad thing also requires a pretty massive ability to ignore history. But that ought to go without saying considering the argument that Trump’s election somehow represents the “country’s darkest turning point.”
