Nov. meeting: Fracking and Public Policy

Hydraulic fracking is one of the most controversial subjects in politics. The industry has done a poor job of explaining the process, and an even worse job of addressing misinformation. The most commonly cited side effects are actually almost non-existent, while other very really challenges are not being discussed. Fred Dupriest will explain how fracking works, the common misunderstandings, and the real issues that we need to be informed about in order to shape and support wise public policy.

Fred Dupriest Bio

Fred Dupriest retired from ExxonMobil five years ago and is now a Professor of Practice in Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University.

He began his career as a hydraulic fracturing engineering in Tyler Texas in 1977 where he implemented Exxon’s “massive frac” treatments and also developed new techniques for stimulating carbonate formations.   He eventually moved to the drilling organization where he retired as ExxonMobil’s Chief Drilling Engineer.

He’s a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a recipient of the SPE International Drilling Engineering Award and an inductee in the American Association of Drilling Engineers Hall of Fame.  He also serves in leadership roles in professional organizations that work to continue to improve engineering and field practices in the Petroleum Industry.
