Let’s do the Official Tout for the Olympic Champion USA Curling Team!

Pursuant to the Sanders Olympic Policy, as slightly revised for the Winter Olympics due to several sports we have not medalled in BUT

Yes USA did win a bronze medal in 2006 in curling (and that is what planted the idea for a certain blogger to help start a club in Virginia!) BUT

In the wee hours of this AM US time, the USA Men’s Curling Team won the GOLD MEDAL in curling.  Anyone who thinks curling is boring ought to have seen this match.  The US team, led by skip (captain) John Shuster (my new hero!), broke open a tight game (with lead changes) all knotted up at five points each with a FIVE (that’s right FIVE) point end in the eighth.  It was a beautiful thing (I could hardly watch the key US shots in this game I was so worried about what would happen!) when the US rock struck out the Swedish one and nearly took its place.  Earlier, Shuster had swept in a rock partially into the scoring zone (the house) and it was lying out there, almost forgotten.  It turned out to be the fifth point!

I cheered like crazy as quietly as I could as about 345 am in my open home but awakened my son Rhett and we watched the end (pun intended) of the match and the medal ceremony.  I went to bed at 5 am!

Let me say:  The Swedish team are scary good.  They started out doing some amazing plays.  If the US played them seven times, the Swedes might win the series.  But USA seemed like a team of destiny and the Swedish team might have gotten a bit rattled as the match continued to be tight.

So this is an Official Tout for John Shuster, Matt Hamilton, Tyler George, John Landsteiner, and alternative (yes his medal is just as gold as the others!) Joe Polo!.  We’ve had many victory laps in our home already and the national anthem is well, they already heard the version they dreamed to hear:  the one in Korea when they get their medals.  Gold Medals.  Curling gold!

PS:  If any of the USA team members find themselves in the Richmond area, the sweet tea is on me!
