Gun laws – and more — coming

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recently said the 2^nd Amendment was an orphan, a “disfavored right” in the Supreme Court. It is in lower courts as well.

As it is, apparently in the mind of President Donald Trump. As it is, apparently in the minds of a host of the political class.

Not only is Trump willing to infringe on Americans’ 2^nd Amendment rights, he’s apparently more than ready to infringe on their 4^th, 5^th, 6^th and 8^th Amendment rights in the process.

During a “listening session” on Wednesday, gun grabbers were downright giddy when Trump stated in very plain language that what most people consider their rights are merely privileges that can be taken away on a whim. His campaign claim – “It is so important that we maintain the Second Amendment and that we maintain it strongly. And one of the main reasons is because the good people, the upstanding people, follow laws and norms but the bad ones don’t. So if the Second Amendment weren’t there to protect our rights and someone tampered with them, the good people would be affected but the bad people wouldn’t care; they couldn’t care less” – rings as hollow as most of the drivel that pours forth from his mouth during one of his stream-of-consciousness rants.

Trump has now backtracked completely, claiming he’s on board with several gun control measures, not the least of which is raising the age limit for purchasing a rifle from 18 to 21. Already, young adults under the age of 21 are prohibited from purchasing handguns. This denies them the right to purchase a weapon they can carry for their self-defense or the defense of their family outside their home. Now Trump is on board with denying them ability to purchase a rifle with which to defend themselves in their homes.

But Trump went further, talking about the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooter:

The police saw that he was a problem, they didn’t take any guns away. Now, that could’ve been policing. They should’ve taken them away anyway, whether they had the right or not… I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time. Take the guns first, go through due process second. (Emphasis added)

That is tyranny and unacceptable in a free society. Due process is the foundation of American jurisprudence and essential to liberty. The Founders understood this, having lived in a society in which armed government agents could and did barge into their homes and businesses unannounced and seize property for any reason or no reason at all.

Trump either doesn’t understand this concept, or – more likely — doesn’t care. He’s already signed away the rights of landowners with property adjacent to the Metro Rail System in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Rights are never stolen from the people in one fell swoop. They are gradually eroded away – and often under the guise of “safety,” “security,” and “for the children” — until one day people awaken in chains.

Somehow any process of gradualism escapes detection. Gradualism extends false hope and the illusion of reality. Meanwhile, the sheep are led to slaughter.

Gun laws are coming. Denial of due process is already here in the form of asset forfeiture – and it was in the works and supported by many politicians under the Barack Obama regime, which sought to steal the guns of people on the No-Fly List even though they were not even suspected of having committed a crime, much less been convicted.

Already, Republicans – supposedly defenders of the 2^nd Amendment – are beginning to line up to support bans on certain weapons. Congressional Democrats are strategizing with George Soros- and Michael Bloomberg-backed gun grabber organizations to push for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and other gun laws.

Prominent Communist Senators like Kamala Harris and Diane Feinstein are advocating for a new “assault weapons” ban, and Trump is encouraging it.

It’s long past time we renew the assault weapons ban in this country. It is in the best interest of keeping all of us safe.

During the campaign, Trump hinted that if SHillary Clinton was to be elected and then appointed a Supreme Court Justice who favored gun control, there is “nothing you can do, folks. Although the 2^nd Amendment people – maybe there is, I don’t know.” Someone should replay that audio for his benefit.

Politicians don’t care about the Constitution and don’t fear the laws. Laws are for the little people.

Meanwhile, Trump supporters believe he’s playing some sort of 10^th dimension chess and is exercising some divinely-inspired strategy and doesn’t aim to infringe on our rights; and leftist gun grabbers who believe Trump is Hitler and who claim – rightly – that police are over-militarized and over-violent, want guns removed from the hands of the people and placed only in the hands of police.

George Orwell created a word for that: doublethink.
