The Functional Herb that Cures Hemorrhoids

Herbal Butcher’s broom may be used as therapeutic treatment to cure hemorrhoids, some scientists suggested.

Hemorrhoids, also called piles are common condition characterized by swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum.

The causes of hemorrhoids are unknown. 

However, some researchers suggested that straining during bowel movements, prolonged period of sitting due to occupation that induce increased pressure on these veins are associated to the early onset of the condition.

In women, pregnancy that cause pressure on the anus and swollen veins and lower rectum veins may also increase risk of hemorrhoids.

According to statistic, a quarter of adults population in US have hemorrhoids developed at some points in their lives.

Most patients with hemorrhoids do not experience any symptoms. But in some infectious cases, hemorroids may induce symptoms of itching, discomfort and bleeding.

Please be aware that some internal hemorrhoids can grow so large that they stick out of the anus. Prolapsed hemorrhoids, most of the time may require surgery to heal.

Hemorrhoids that burst may cause serve bleeding. The loss of large amount of blood due to rupturing hemorrhoids can be life threatening. 

Some researchers suggested that stool softeners an over-the-counter remedies, and conventional anti-inflammatory ointments may be used to provide short-term local discomforts.and eating more fibers, drinking more water and preventing straining may also help to relieve hemorrhoids’ symptoms.

Change of diet, lifestyle changes, and use of other transnational treatment such as hydrotherapy that require a high degree of patient compliance may also be helpful.

Butcher’s broom is a low evergreen shrub, a species of Ruscus aculeatus, belongings to the family Asparagaceae, native to Eurasia.

The herb has been used in herbal medicine to treat inflammation, peripheral vascular disease, hemorrhoids, bronchial asthma, varicose veins,…….and hypotension.

The Phyto ingredients
It contains rutin, sitosterol, sparteine, spirostanol saponins, steroidal sapogenins, sterols, stigmasterol, sulfated steroidal saponins, sweet broom, tetracosanoic acid, triterpenes, triterpines, tyramine, etc.

According to the Thorne Research, in compared to surgery that often is associated to certain risks, after non-surgical approach fails, that can lead a patient to postpone evaluation until aggressive intervention is necessary, oral dietary supplementation of butcher’s broom is an attractive and effective addition to the traditional treatment of hemorrhoids and varicose veins(1).

Dr. MacKay D, after taking to account of co and con founders said, “Several botanical extracts(including those of butcher’s broom) have been shown to improve microcirculation, capillary flow, and vascular tone, and to strengthen the connective tissue of the perivascular amorphous substrate”(1).

Etiologically, varicose and hemorrhoids are manifestations as a pelvic venous disease which has been treated effectively by application of Centella asiatica in some studes. Therefore, Centella asiatica may also share the similar characteristic of increase peripheral circulation, in hemorrhoids patients(2).

 Dr. Bharat Gami said, ” Ruscus aculeatus is famous for the treatment in internal hemorrhoids and pregnancy related problem of CVI & hemorrhoids. Extract of these plants is effective in increasing venous tone because of its anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, which is attributed to saponin glycoside” and ” .In beginning of hemorrhoids, it can be completely cure by botanicals. In addition to that changes in life style, diet habit, and intake of appropriate dose of proper botanicals gives intervene in the pathogenesis to decrease vascular integrity and help in hemorrhoids cure”(2).

Also, according to the research article in Page 608 Alternative Medicine Review ◆ Volume 6, Number 6, butcher’s broom was tested to have a significant effect on patients with hemorrhoids in an open trial, as 75 percent of participating physicians rated butcher’s broom’s efficacy as good or excellent(3).

Further more, application of the herbal medicine also is found to be effective in preventing time-consuming, painful, and expensive complications of hemorrhoids, such as anal discomfort, soiling and bleeding pre- sent in acute phase(3).

The  findings indicated that herbal Butcher’s broom may be as effective as conventional medicine and surgery in curing hemorrhoids with no or little side effects.

However, intake of herbal medicine and herbal extracts should only be prescribed by related field specialist in prevention of acute liver toxicity.
