The Snake

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Man is a violent creature. That’s because there is a snake within him, placed there by evolution to insure his survival at the expense of everyone else. This is my surprised face. Throughout history civilization has tried to contain this snake. Nothing ever works in the long haul. Gun control, knife control, people control. You can’t just cut off everyone’s hands, and if you did, you’d just have to pull everyone’s teeth because man is a violent creature. You can’t defang the snake.

Civilization is just that. To take what is basically a wild beast and make it behave. We are all born narcissistic. A baby has to find some way to survive. And, these days with Planned Parenthood and all, that’s not a given. States are lining up to just protect the baby after the first heartbeat, and the liberals are doing everything they can to redefine “heart.” Hey liberals. That’s the part you don’t have.

The baby doesn’t care where the food comes from so long as it gets to the mouth. As time goes by it begins to understand that the food primarily comes from one source. Long about that time it will say, “MaMa,” which loosely translated means, “Feed me!” This is known as “bonding.” If there is no primary care giver that the child can connect with food ie survival, then it begins to understand that since food comes it must be the child itself that is causing this and it becomes detached from people, and becomes a “RAD.” Reactive Attachment Disorder. But, is it truly a disorder, or an evolutionary leap of the snake producing a new generation of self sustaining humanoids. Food, but no mama. Sex, but no love. Life, but no God!

If a child develops normally the brain actually grows a conscience. You can see it on an MRI. Where is the snake! It’s right under your nose, or behind it actually. It’s known as the brain stem. It makes the heart beat, the lungs work, all the features that make the body exist. And it is reptilian. A little gift from our ancestors. All purpose and no reason. And its only purpose is to survive . . . by any means necessary. Then, if provoked it forces its will upon the ”higher” regions of the brain, and if there is no buffer ie conscience, the creature will do whatever the snake tells it to do. That was the “snake” that Eve fell in love with for all you Pat Robertson fans out there.

But, as the child grows, hopefully with nurturing, layer upon layer of conscience is put between that snake and the outside world. The child will still want the cookie but will ask first, knowing that the care giver will give a cookie and perhaps more if the rules are followed. But, the snake is always there because man is a violent creature!

When the snake gets out we are always beside ourselves. It shoots up schools, kills family, goes from one end of the country murdering ladies that it never met, and the police are endlessly searching for “motive.” There is only one. The snake got out and man is a violent creature!

So, we blame the instruments of our destruction. We ban guns. Recently in Japan, a man entered a school bus and began butchering little girls. He used a knife. The Boston Strangler used his hands. The overall weapon of choice is a hammer. Women prefer poison or child support to destroy a man, but everyone is missing the point. Man is a violent creature! Once you understand the snake the rest comes easy.

We all have the potential for mayhem. We all have that snake in the back of our heads. We all strive to keep the snake well fed and happy. When the snake is unhappy, we become unhappy, and if the snake is unhappy long enough then we get Columbines, and ISIS, and Ted Bundys, and dead little girls in Japan. Because man is a violent creature, and the snake never sleeps. It really doesn’t. Google it!
