US Political Prisoner Released After 17 Yrs: You won't believe why he was jailed

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In two days, a targeted individual falsely imprisoned person, patriot Fernando Gonzalez Llort, will end the last day of his unjust 17 years plus 9 month prison sentence for the “crime” of risking his life to prevent further CIA terrorism that killed dozens of victims, covered up by the U.S. government.

During his long captivity, Llort has remained in isolation, out of U.S. mainstream press news, in cold and distant prisons in various parts of American geography. As additional punishment, Llord was banned visits from friends and supporters. Only his mother Magali Llort, his sisters Lourdes and Martha, his wife Rosa Aurora Freijanes and other family members were allowed to visit him – once a year on average. He was allowed one other visit, from former Bishop of Detroit Thomas Gumbleton in March 2007.

Llort is one of the  Cuban 5, patriots who were monitoring terrorist activities of anti-Cuban exiles and the CIA in Miami that were committing deadly attacks against Cuba and planning more. Instead of investigating these, the FBI arrested the Five on September 12, 1998. In a Miami trial marked by what a Federal Appeals panel described as a “perfect storm” of prejudice, the Five were convicted and given sentences from 15 years to two life terms while the terrorists remained free.

Alice Walker, author and human rights defender, recently presented the following commentary on the Cuban Five, saying we need more heroes like the Cuban Five and that President Obama needs to immediately release each of the five.

Despite imprisonment isolation, Llort, like his 4 brothers in the Cuban 5, received on a daily basis volumes of mail of solidarity from around the world, that filled prison mail rooms. Globally, more so in countries other than the U.S. people have recognized that the Cuban Five represent thousands of Targeted Individuals held as political prisoners and thousands more killed in terrorist actions by the CIA and its contractors for the ultimate aim of U.S. imperialism.

The Cuban Five, three born in Cuba and two in the United States, fought in Angola during the war against apartheid. In 2010, Deborah Dupré wrote about the Cuban 5:

The Cuban Five FIPs (Falsely Imprisoned Persons) are Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Ramón Labañino Salazar, Rene González Sehwerert, Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez and Fernando González Llort. They were falsely accused by the U.S. government of committing espionage conspiracy against the United States plus other related charges.

The Five state in their defense that they were involved in monitoring actions of Miami-based terrorist groups to prevent terrorist attacks on their country of Cuba as planned. They never harmed anyone, yet they are in prison while the anti-Cuba extremists, whom they tried to stop, are walking freely in Miami.

Although Llort, one of the Cuban 5, fulfilled every day of his sentence, he’s still forced to endure an ”undetermined time” process before freedom surrounded by loved ones. Thursday, he’ll be taken from the Federal Correctional Prison in Safford Arizona to a federal immigration prison until deported back to Cuba.

“Along with his family, the heroic people of Cuba, and the thousands of people in the international solidarity movement for the Cuban 5 we advocate that this last bit of injustice ends as swiftly as possible,” committee of advocates said in a written statement Tuesday.

The Mayor of Richmond, California Gayle McLaughlin recently released the video below, sharing her view about the Cuban 5, inviting people to join her during “5 Days for the Cuban 5″ in Washington D.C. June 4th through the 11th.

Canada and Europe have staged protests against the U.S. for its treatment of the Cuban Five. U.S. organizations, however, have struggled for support to address the the U.S. Department of Justice and Homeland Security associated alleged false arrests and imprisonments of such Targeted Individuals.

False imprisonments to silence dissent are a major characteristic of fascism, according to historians and authors such as Naomi Wolf and Glen Yeadon. “Fascist regimes use violence and terror to gain and preserve power. Hitler had his Brown Shirts intimidate voters and opposition. Once in power, he used the Gestapo, the secret state police to root out and remove any opposition,” Yeadon writes.  (Glen Yeadon, Nazi Hydra in AmericaProgressive Press. 2009, p.31)

“All the love, pride and respect of the entire island of Cuba is waiting for Fernando, a true Hero of the Republic of Cuba. His return will give more strength to the solidarity movement as he joins forces with Rene in leading the struggle to demand the freedom of Gerardo, Antonio and Ramon.

“We will share a moment of joy with the family of Fernando upon his return and then we will multiply our commitment to continue the fight until the final return of the Five to Cuba.”

15th Cuban Five Anniversary Exhibit in Pa.

On Friday, March 21, a reception will celebrate one of the other Cuban 5 members, Fernando González, prison release. An exhibit of fifteen watercolors by Antonio Guerrero, one of the Cuban Five political prisoners, unjustly incarcerated in the U.S. will be held.

Guerrero’s paintings mark the 15th anniversary of imprisonment of the Five and display one watercolor for each year.  As Guerrero explains, “All these images have one thing in common: they were memories of the unjust and cruel treatment given to us since the very first day of our detention.”

The exhibit from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. is hosted by the iMPeRFeCT Gallery at 5601 Greene St. (Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa.)

Typical in today’s upside down world, as sweet as we want to make it, those trying to stop terrorism are imprisoned while the terrorists roam free. Ask any Targeted Individual and they’ll tell you the same – with first hand experiences to back up their claims.

Thank you for your courage in reporting these state crimes against humanity. As we increase our demands for justice, injustice will increase out of proportion. We have to remain strong somehow.
