I watched the first media report of an American citizen (Moner Mohammad Abusalha of South Florida ) turned ISIS suicide bomber last week. The story was quickly buried. Then came the more recent reports of California resident Douglas McCain who was killed fighting with ISIS. And now a third example has been confirmed – Minnesota resident Abdiraaman Muhumed (a father of nine) was killed fighting alongside ISIS militants as well. The real story is not these three deaths, but the fact that all three men traveled to the Middle East from the United States.
A New York Times report indicated these Americans were in fact joined by several others to join with ISIS. Logic would then demand that hundreds, or perhaps thousands more such examples still remain inside the United States. How many of those potential thousands are planning to do the work of ISIS here at home?
Currently ISIS has access to BILLIONS of dollars. By contrast, when al-Qaeda planned and then initiated the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the United States, it spent about a half million dollars to do so. What kind of attack could be carried out by an organization with billions of dollars at its disposal? That is the thought that should now be keeping those charged with protecting us from terrorism up at night.
