Canada's Parliament Under Attack: 'Dozens Of Shots' Fired -Soldier Dies After Being Gunned Down At War Memorial

Ottawa’s downtown remains on lockdown after gunshots rang through the halls of Parliament Hill’s Centre Block Wednesday morning and a gunman fired on soldiers guarding Canada’s main war memorial.
The city’s National War Memorial sits about 500 feet from the Parliament building. The shooting started at the memorial around 10 a.m. and later broke out inside the Parliament building.
One soldier was shot in the chest at the war memorial by a man who then fled, reportedly toward the House of Commons. Canadian police have confirmed that the soldier has died.
Witness Scott Walsh told the Canadian Press he saw a man with long, black hair, his face covered with a white scarf and wearing a black jacket.
“He had a double-barrelled shotgun, he was about five feet from me, and he ran right beside us, ran past the woman with the stroller and child,” he said.
Walsh said the gunman then hijacked a dark car at gunpoint and started driving towards the Peace Tower.
The gunman was apparently then shot inside the Parliament building during a pitched gun battle with police and security guards. The Star, of Toronto, is reporting that one security guard has been wounded.
In video taken within Parliament, about a dozen gunshots can be heard within the halls.
Ottawa police Constable Marc Soucy said it was unclear whether there was more than one shooter.
