Class Action Suit Filed Against Monsanto For False Claim Commercials. I Can Get Behind This.

This week a class action suit was filed against Monsanto corporation in Superior Court of California. The main component of the lawsuit is claiming false advertising by Monsanto which provides advertising campaigns touting the safety of their main pesticide, Round Up. If you’ve seen the commercials, you would know how crazy it is.

“It’s time for a bigger discussion about food.”

Well, Monsanto is going to get that discussion now, but not in the way it had hoped.

“Defendant makes the claim that Roundup, the world’s most popular weedkiller, works by targeting an enzyme supposedly found only in plants, but not in people. And this is blatantly false.”

and…

“Glyphosate [the main ingredient in Roundup] works by inhibiting weeds from producing EPSP synthase—and once rendered unable to produce this enzyme—weeds cannot uptake minerals, nor can they make proteins from amino acids, and weeds then starve to death.”

Glyphosate, you know, that stuff that is now considered to cause cancer? How’s that for a good old fashion dinner table discussion! I mean even the WHO is confessing that, so not really sure how Monsanto can defend this claim.

Oh wait, lawyers. And more lawyers. That’s how.

The main part of the lawsuit which is of extreme importance is proving that Glyphosate kills good gut bacteria in the same way it kills weeds.

“The same chemistry that kills backyard weeds likewise kills gut bacteria, and this bacteria kill-off compromises our digestion, metabolism, and vital immune system functions.”

Being able to prove that could be worth millions to a class action group, but also a pretty healthy step in the right direction.
