Mom Buys Daughter Underwear Only to Find a Disturbing Note Rolled Inside That Leaves Her Terrified

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Nicole Perez was at a mom-to-mom sale last weekend when she picked up a pack of underwear decorated with “Disney Fairies” for her daughter, CBS Detriot reports.

However, upon opening the pack, she discovered more than just undergarments. Wrapped inside the plastic was also a hidden message that read “Help me, plz,” with the name “MayAnn,” a location, and a telephone number.

“I was terrified,” Nicole tells ABC 7. “I just felt like everything just dropped to my stomach.”

The underwear was packaged in a factory located in the Philippines owned by an American manufacturing company, Handcraft.

According to ABC 7, Nicole quickly sent an email explaining that she had found a note in a package of their underwear to the manufacturer, who offered an apology and a new pack of underwear.

However, Nicole wasn’t worried about the undergarments, she was worried about the person who was trying to convey a potentially “desperate” plea for help.

No one could be reached at the telephone number written on the cardboard.

“You’re wondering if this is forced labor, if they’re just working long hours, they’re putting these underwear together and clearly someone is reaching out for help and so you think about your own kids and you hope that this isn’t the case,” Nicole says.

Unfortunately, Rebecca Tungol, president of the Philippine American Cultural Center of Michigan, tells ABC 7 that most people in the Philippines use prepaid cellphones, which are untraceable, and because the package of underwear was second-hand, its hard to tell when the note was written exactly.

According to Marshall Mizrahi, vice president of Handcraft, based on the photos of the package Nicole sent them, the product is more than two years old, CBS Detroit reports.

In order to help officials gauge whether the S.O.S was legitimate or not, Nicole has sent the package, along with the note, back to Handcraft headquarters, so they could find the tracking number and date the package was made.

Nicole says that this experience has made her much more aware of they things she buys and where they were made.

        For those who downvote me,
My wife is Thai, (I met her through friends, not Internet)
She was born in an extremely poor farming area,
but thankfully, not one of the areas where the daughters
are sold for cash. Even so she worked as a maid starting at
16 years old. A Filipina family friend started work at 11.
In some regions, in some cases, a girl or woman’s life has
        little or no value.
Humiliate your company, and you could end with a concrete
block cable-tied to your leg and thrown in a swamp.
By daybreak there wouldn’t be any evidence,
        as if anyone could care.
        If you don’t understand this,
Be grateful to God you don’t.

And then promptly smashed the brains out of a worker. LOL

You have no idea how true what you just made a joke of is. Why is that funny? I bet you a hundred dollars thats exactly what happened.

    • Betsy.B.Scott

Just plain bull reported by mainstream media to color our perceptions of the Philippines. I wonder what that country did to start this smear campaign against them?

    • Conundrum

They probably know who MayAnn is and they have put an end to her note writing.I hope she is OK.

    • LadySlinger

I’m sorry but how many Filipino slave laborers write in perfect English & have a phone number ? I smell a hoax… follow the money.

      • caoneil76

Filipino and English are the official languages of the Philippines, so try harder lady. :)

        • AllRoadsLead2NWO

Yeah- they all know english- it is the official language especially for business there, however locally there are a million different local tribal dialects cebuano, etc.

    • Squanto

What is to say the company will not ferret out the person that put the note there?

To anyone, who would downvote this comment, I would ask whether you have a lightswitch and potable water in your house. Are you physically capable of creating even the most trivial things from scratch, like, say, the little screw in the outlet cover, a ponytailer, or pair of underwear, starting from dirt. You’re closest to the top of that proverbial pyramid, but, if I asked you where that came from, would it sound like I was speaking in riddles.

Mark Dice plays the poser, in notorious social experiments.

My question is whether those 99% are morally-redeemable, or will they tend toward a Ferguson/Syrian refugees sort-of collapse, without a minder or a keeper.

      My problem is when:
      – moral, functional, mental adults are demoralized, or Shanghai’ed, or evaluated for entrapment
      – when legitimately-undeserving people, with no better prospects, are radicalized or put on a high horse

May I suggest that all derivatives, energy sources, commodities, and mediums of exchange — at their source — result from human labor and are only valuable to the extent that they can keep people engaged.

I have tried gift economies and all sorts of independent arrangements, personally. In my direct , real-life experience, there was no failure of materiele, nor of opportunities, but of human nature.

No situation for barter exists, independently of a market maker.

She immediately contacts the guy who will make sure Mary Ann disappears! You just can’t make this stuff up.

      • The Clucker

        Grover just did though.

    • Slipmatwax

I don’t know of too many native Philippians’s that would abbreviate “please” with “PLZ”. I suggest the note was created in the West, probably the USA

      • AllRoadsLead2NWO

All filipino’s have cell phones- no matter how poor and texting 24/7 is their national pastime–especially the girls there of course.

So someone buys secondhand underwear from WalMart…that is a WM receipt in the picture above, after all.

      BS

    • yellowcakeplease

It’s not a telephone number… are they coordinates?

    • VomitO

Philippines is a Prime Place where Slave Labor is “recruited”. People think they’re getting a “rel” Job and go through recruiters fron American Companies. They end up on Slave Fishing Ships, as Prostirtutes/ Sex Slaves in Middle East Countries and other places or working as Forced Labor in some compound somewhere. Many are Never seen again. The Govy takes bribes whenever the issue is drawing attention and looks the other way. Unfortunately sending this item and note BACK to the Manufacturer will likely get some person ad people KILLED.

    • Throckmorton

Having lived in the Philippines for the last 9 years, everything seems to add up. The phone number, the name, the fact that the garment was imported from the Philippines.

Yes, I don’t need to speak Tagalog in order to function in the Philippines, I do it out of respect for them. Usually if I speak Filipino, they always answer me in English.

The thing that just doesn’t jive, or ring true and I have to call BS. The fact that May Ann misspelled Philippines. (AND NO ONE CAUGHT IT!) I have NEVER SEEN A FILIPINA or FILIPINO MIS-SPELL PHILIPPINES!!!

The telecom provider for 090 is Globe Telecom. See how easy it is to track down someone. You only need seven more numbers and you have the culprit.

I can get a Philippine prepaid SIM card almost anywhere.

      Let the buyer beware,

      Throckmorton

      • Throckmorton

AND we are talking about a gross misspelling, Philippines which is the correct way and Phillipines, NEVER FOR ANYONE IN THE PI!

    • Nancy636

Maybe this was not the thing to do, let them know who was asking for help

    • Anonymous

Many years ago when they first came out I worked in a large store that sold Fax machines. I used to leave a message on new ones that printed out when first turned on as a bit of fun. “Send help am being held prisoner in Japanese Fax machine factory” Until they sacked me for another prank….(Grin) Yes really!

When working at a local radio station I put up a swimming pool on the top floor. It was flat and graveled. I ran a hose pipe through the janitors closet that had a sink fitted with a faucet that would fit the hose….and just filled it up. I worked a very early morning and very late shift to allow for my class schedule…but weekends were open.

Needless to say….I had a great summer…..until I got ratted out by the lead talk show host. (I was second, just under him in rank.) I didn’t get canned….but my Italian boss had a few choice words to say while his blood pressure was up.

    • RoaringLamb58

The sad thing is, if Maryann still works there, they can locate her by looking for employees with the first name of Maryann just for starters. It really wouldn’t be that hard to track this person down. I pray that whoever Maryann is that she doesn’t get into a lot of trouble for doing this.

    • Earthmuffin33

Sadly that lady blew any chance there was of helping that poor girl by calling the company…….

    • b4Idie

I can understand and support the ‘disturbing’ aspect of finding said note in a package of underpants, but I don’t get the ‘terrified’ term. If a note in underpants such as this terrifys you, then when the SHTF you are already dead.
